Hey folks,

Those of you who went karting might remember my friend, Carolyn and her white Mk1 MR2. Unfortunately, the radiator's died frown

She's got a spare lined up, but 1) we don't have any axle stands (apparently to bleed it properly you need to hoist the back up) and 2) it's currently languishing in a garage on Seafield Rd.

So...has anyone got any stands we can borrow for a week or so and, secondly, anyone able to lug it from Seafield Rd to Balfour Place (off Leith Walk) to my flat? (My street's one of the few that don't need parking permits and usually has plenty of space).

Cheers smile

I could oblige with both if you can wait till Sunday. I'm on night shift till then. I'm working in Edin Park, live in Dunfermline.

I can lend you axle stands Graham, but we are leaving this afternoon for our Spa trip and wont be back until Tuesday. If you can get out to Corstorphine before 2pm today, you are welcome to them.

Hi, I can help with both if still needed. Have a set of axle stands sat in the garage which can be borrowed, and can do the tow Friday or Saturday morning? Im in Granton so its only a mile or 2 to Seafield Road. Happy to help!

Graham, the rear only needs to be jacked up so it's higher than the front. It doesn't have to be way up in the air. Obviously the higher the better but don't go worrying about having it miles in the air.

Drop the radiator out the front from underneath, put the new one in from underneath too and connect up the 2 pipes.

Then leave the top bleed valve open, drop the nose down and jack the rear up and open up all the extra valves and do as described in the other thread.

Only thing you'll need the stands for is when you're getting the radiator out from underneath if you're health and safety conscious. You should be able to do it without actually getting under the car though.

a word of warning about towing, speaking from experience they can rust badly behind the tow eye at the front bumper (the whole bumper pulled away when being towed on a previous mk1 I had!), I think there is a better towing point underneath the front end though

Spot on Emmrtwo, the front bumper bars are 99% rotten and the towing eyes cannot be used for towing.

There is a much more solid attachment point underneath on drivers and passengers side, look underneath the car and you'll see them about a foot from the front bumper.

I'm available till Wednesday. I tow caravans when I'm on holiday, and have a tow rope in the car.

Lidl's were selling axle stands last week for £7 a pair if you still need them.
