Hi, will be up in Aberdeen probably next Tues for the day, travelling up from Blairgowrie. Kids 15 (girl) and 11 (boy)

Boy is supercar mad - where would be the best place to drive past / through to let him see any?

Last time we were there, went to the shows at the front, a walk down Union St etc. However are there any specific activities or events maybe on in Aberdeen next week (not sure if its your school week at the same time).

Also, will be in Blairgowrie for a couple of days as well - is there any quad biking or similar outdoor type pursuit that anyone could recommend in the locality for the kids (and maybe me!)

Cheers

Cruising Union St at lunchtime usually throws up a couple astons, 911 turbo and some other nice machinery but of course can't be guaranteed frown

Aberdeenshire is on school hols so the city "should" be i guess but they don't always match! frown

Probably the west end wink
Ermmm there is Kartstart in the Bridge of Don, Pretty pricey and it is indoors. Also there is Deeside Activities park near Lumphanan where you can do pretty much anything. But it is about 50mins drive from Aberdeen.

Yeh, i'm on holiday next week and the week after, and that is an Aberdeen school, Shire is off too.

We sat up stairs in a resturant on beach boulevard, watched various ferraris, aston martin, lamborghini, and a zonda cruise by.

I might get flamed, but Aberdeen doesn't really have a lot for kids that age.
Transition xtreme at the beach is a big skate park/ BMX/ climbing wall if either of them like that its a good venue.
Beach is a reasonable chill out place, and if its sunny there will be heaps of supercars! Try and get in one of the traditional cafes on the beach front for lunch or otherwise. Sand Dollar is the better for a meal.
Grampian Transport Museum is in Alford about 20 miles inland, if your lucky might be something on the track that weekend.
Usual shops you find anywhere else around the shopping centres. Cynical view I know but that is beginning to grate with me.
If your/them are interested in place there is actually a lot of heritage to see, Foot Dee, HMT, Maritime Museum, architecturally quite rich pre 20th century. Wander outwith Aberdeen up Strath Don or up and down the coast and it visually is very picturesque. But that may bore an 11 and 15 year old to tears!

I will not flame you, we dont even have an Ice Rink!!!!!

We do probably have some of the best potholesin our roads than most so I suppose thats something to be proud of.

This city is going downhill fast!!

The beach is a good bet as a general destination for entertaining kids. Codona's has plenty to offer including crazy golf which will burn an hour or so.

As has been mentioned before, Transition Extreme (also at the beach) is quite impressive if they're into skateboarding or in-line. There's also a selection of climbing walls which they can try out with an instructor.

Also walkable from the beach is the Satrosphere Science Centre. I haven't been in the new premises but it's probably worth a look.

I think it was mentioned before but the Maritime Museum would be great for the lad but I suspect your lassie would be bored.

Old Aberdeen is quite nice for a walk around on a nice day but maybe not so good for kids. I live right by St Machar's Cathedral so if you end up there, give me a shout and I'll put the kettle on.

Asking my wife, she reckons a 15 year old lassie won't be interested in anything but shopping. In that case, the Bon Accord Centre is probably the best bet. There's a multi storey carpark which you enter by Berry Street.

If they like animals, Doonies Farm might be worth a look. I haven't been there for donkey's years though (did you see what I did there? wink).

If you fancy; country walks, castles or parks, post up and I'll give you some pointers.

I'll have a further think and if anything else occurs, I'll post later.

I hope you have an enjoyable time in The Granite City and you're made to feel most welcome.

Cheers,

Eric smile

Thanks for all the suggestions and also the time folks have taken to give their replies.
I will look into them further and talk over with the kids to see what takes their fancy.

Many thanks again.

As far as the Blairgowrie area is concerned, there's a few places do quad biking, head out to Dunkeld. And there's also paint balling a couple of miles from Blair (http://www.skirmishperth.net/). On top of that there's go karting in Perth at Noah's Ark (http://www.noahs-ark.co.uk/ - don't judge the place by it's horrendous website!)

Where are you staying in Blairgowrie, it's where I lived for the first 18 years of my life smile

Aha - thought that might be you Tino!

Long time no speak bud - you won't recognise the name, but you may remember my 4th Gen Prelude wink (StevenH)

I'm heading back up to Blair next week for a week holiday - we sold our static a couple of years ago, but return to the park on a regular basis.

This covers it pretty well, the karts at Noahs Ark are good fun, it is worth taking a walk up river from the centre, it is very pretty with old mills, a bridge and a bit of a gorge but can be rather muddy.
I am also curious were you are staying, I live in Alyth which is 5 miles E of Blairgowrie.
