Is there someone you could recommend in Scotland to replace the cracked rear screen on our boxster? The hood doesn't need replacing, just a new screen to be sewn in.

Bloke at work had his (and the whole hood) replaced on his 996 Carrera under the standard glass cover of his insurance. 50quid excess was all he paid! Might be worth looking into doing this, let me know if you want me to ask for more details.

Aye, Willie Ramsay on Loanhead/Penicuik.

He's a total genius and old school master craftsman. No internet, no email, no mobile so be patient when trying to find him.

He restored the nephrite green leather on my 996 for me and the job is perfect. He was re-roofing a Corniche at the same time for the Swarovski family so should tell you the regard that he's held in.

In the end I decided to go for a whole new hood with glass screen instead of a sewn in plastic one. Gary at Trimline did the work. Here's some photos of the result:

[chips on the frame were there before, creases on the fabric were not!]

[I had to trim this piece with a Stanley knife as the hood was fouling it when closing.]

[It didn't close like that before I had the new hood fitted]

All in all, maybe not the kind of handiwork that I would recommend but it's up to all the Scottish PHers to make up their own minds about Gary from Trimline's skill.
