How to deal with Glasgow rush hour traffic!

Apart from the hard shoulder, I think this is the chosen method for half of the rush hour commuters!!!
Although there is obviously a serious side to this and looking at his other videos these make fascinating viewing, seeing the reaction, or lack of reaction, from many vehicles.

I have driven that road many times in the rush hour and there are so few places to move to as the traffic is bunched up for about 6 miles with all 4 lanes clogged. The cops are just weaving about the place and that is what is casuing the confusiona as you dont know which direction to move in. not sure that the cops dealt with that so well!
I think one of the issues is if the cops are directly behind you, especially if you are in a van, you won't see them. Thus they move from one side to the other to try and let you see them in your mirrors.
I think overall it was very successful, they got where they needed to in as fast a time as they could.
On a separate issue, that is why the M8 gridlocks in the morning. The two lanes coming on from the M80 are used to skip the traffic until the very last minute rather than merging and then same again with the Charing X turn off.
I think overall it was very successful, they got where they needed to in as fast a time as they could.

+1 , they did a great job, there are always tossers on the road, I suspect some have the stereo on so loud they can't hear the sirens. I was shouting at the Greggs van to pull over! And that silver Megane - shift your fat ar*e!!I think overall it was very successful, they got where they needed to in as fast a time as they could.

Agree about the lane swappers, I would like to ban Westbound traffic switching into the outer 3 lanes of the M8 for the last 400 metres before the Kirkintilloch turn off, and similar for the Charing Cross and Stowe College exits, put double whites, soft barriers and spikes in, as a lot of eejits race up there then swing in, causing others to panic brake then gridlock.
I would also have a fast response breakdown/towing team available, all it takes is one wee breakdown on this stretch and its chaos.

Is that the one stopped at a red traffic light at 7:40? If so, I would say the driver was correct in not pulling forward and shouldn't have done so until the lights had changed.Tempting as it is, you're not allowed to break the law [pass a red light, or move into a bus lane for instance] to let blues and twos past. There are plenty of examples of people being fined for doing such things.
Still, it's a fascinating video.

Ultra frustrating as they got into Scotstoun.
Before that getting through the M8 they did very well, you have to go slow to give people a chance to get out your road.
Why on earth wouldn't you fly the heart from Newcastle Airport to Glasgow though? Surely quicker.
And there was me thinking my 2hours 8mins from Durham to Hamilton was good going
(sorry, i mean Durham to Newcastle obviously Occifer)

(sorry, i mean Durham to Newcastle obviously Occifer)I guess the way body parts are transported has changed - I've delivered a few up and down the country in a previous life, but it was just an old Escort van and no blue lights
And then there was the story about Ralf, a liver in a box in the front passenger footwell, a cold night, and his heater....

By the time you arrange a private charter (which generally have to fly up from Birmingham, Manchester, Heathrow etc), brief the pilots, ready the aircraft, drive to and from airports on the edge of the town, and so on not really - not to mention flying is much more expensive (this is ultimately the NHS we're talking about). The actual service doesn't seem to be done by ambulance trusts but by a private contractor for the NHS - the former can't afford to have cars sitting around all day in strategic locations to deal with just transplants. Before that getting through the M8 they did very well, you have to go slow to give people a chance to get out your road.

The work goes to the lowest bidder with the quickest car, hmmm?
It's astounding the lack of awareness some road users have.
The rules I was always told are simple. Unless you're causing an obstruction ie traffic lights or junction, then keep the same speed, don't change lanes, don't indicate, don't do anything. If the driver is as highly trained as they should be, he's planning 5 cars (if not more) in front of you, so if you do nothing then you (in theory) should cause the least amount of hassle and confusion

Not sure it would be much quicker getting in the other way from the airport to be fair! Just think, if only they still did the transplants at GRI then they could have shaved 5 minutes off the time! Before that getting through the M8 they did very well, you have to go slow to give people a chance to get out your road.

(sorry, i mean Durham to Newcastle obviously Occifer)As for the point about flying, not sure I'm 100% on the booking a charter argument. Are we saying the air ambulances are utilised allllllllll the time?
Cost probably is part of the issue, but there's a lot of money washing round the transplant scene anyway. Heart and Lung must be knocking on for £100k each I'd guess. Certainly liver, renal, pancreas are all in the region of £40-50k each.

You can jump a red if a police officer (and only a police officer - ambulance and fire don't count) instructs you to do so. The practicality of issuing such an instruction by wild gesticulation from car to car, is the sticking point Still, it's a fascinating video.
. As they pass through those lights, the police driver appears to wave to the Octavia/taxi by way of thanks. Great video though, as are some of the others on that channel.

After having what was meant to be a pleasant evening out with the bird ruined (and had people gathered round pointing at the scurrilous boy racer parked up in George Square with 3 marked cars all with blues on around him) and having the full breathaliser routine administered, the on duty traffic seargent who has to attend such incidents was kind enough to inform me they wouldnt be charging me with going through the red light. To this day I dont know how I didnt explode in a ball of obscenities and fists

Anyways, on topic, great video. I couldnt believe some of the antics I saw in town on Saturday night with people oblivious to Police and Ambulances trying to get through traffic.
And the most c.untish behavior I have ever witnessed yet: Ambulance using blues and sirens to clear a path up the centre of a jammed St Vincent Street, when some a
hole taxi driver pulls out behind it and chases it through.emicen said:
