honestly, how collosally thick or incapable of piloting a tonne of steel do you have to be to do this? Im glad the girl this dhead drove into seems to be okay. If you dont notice that youre driving the wrong way up a slip road and that all the road signs are facing the wrong way then you should never have been driving in the first place.

From the location looks like he came up the slip road you should go down to come off at the fruitmarket. There's no excuses for this, its bloody obvious you shouldnt be driving up there!

However, when she realised her mistake she decided to carry on down the fast lane until she found an exit.
I'm sorry what?! She kept her licence? I bet she has difficulty sitting the right way around on a toilet.

The argument put forward in the eyes of the law seems to be that as she made a mistake it is careless.

My argument is that she ceased to be making a mistake when she reached the end of the slip road.
She then chose to drive for over 16 miles the wrong way on a Motorway at night, in the rain.

This is how our courts deal with motoring offences. Exceed 100mph, pretty much automatic ban.
Drive the wrong way down a motorway, 6 points and a fine.

thats crazy, she should have stopped and awaited assistance, or turned round and gone back carefully. Even creeping along the hard shoulder for 16 miles would have better than 16 miles in the goddamn fast lane! Doing 100mph means an impact speed of 100mph tops with an inanimate object or less when hitting another car, 70mph in the wrong direction means an impact speed of possibly 140mph if not more! That she isnt in a jail cell is crazy let alone still driving around! Insane.

According to the police tonight the deceased male driver had driven the wrong way along the M80 and joined the M8 just prior to this.

No idea what the reasons, what happened, how it happened but please can we refrain from the name calling? That could have been any of our fathers, grandfathers, uncles etc. A wee bit of respect please?

respect? he almost killed someone with his dangerous stupidity, or if he was intent upon killing himself by smashing into someone else he was scum.

Hi,

May seem a bit unreasonable, But could we stop the name calling please.
I know of the gentleman involved and there is more to the story which meets the eye which i wont go into for obvious reasons, He has paid for this mistake with his life which i think is a punishment in itself.

Please no more of the 'dhead' names and so on, I dont want to hit the report button but will if i have to.

Well said.

No one is immune to a driving error not matter how good they "think" they are, and I can easily hold my hands up on this one. I HAVE turned onto a slipway. It's a terrifying feeling. I followed directions from a security guard a few years back, torrential rain in a place I did not know. Thankfully I realised my error the second I turned right and corrected my mistake, still a shock however and something I won't forget.

Thank heavens no one else died, seeing the bus and fuel tanker almost involved is scary.

I'm inclined to say if this was a young man who had done it there'd be no issue with what he was called.

As far as we can tell from the info given he did a stupid thing and endangered other people in the process. That's not acceptable.

So, without any name calling or anything to upset people, what are the reasons that over ride this and make it acceptable?

Until we all know the facts we can only comment on what is given to us, and based on those facts, the above comments, although worded harshly are quite correct in their basis for having that view.

No, until all the facts are known, we refrain from any name calling and any guessing to reason.

the facts are he drove the wrong way up a motorway and almost killed a young girl. I cant think of anything that would that okay, unless he was senile.

But if he was that senile he shouldn't have been driving is the point made above.
