Hi guys

Really in need of a bit of local info please.

My boyfriend and I have come up to Scotland for a bit of a holiday. We're on Skye and are trying to find the locations that are featured in this month's EVO magazine, the eCotY feature and most particularly the hairpin where the group photo was taken (page 60/61).

Any help on this location gratefully received - we have studied google maps and other pics we've managed to find but with no real success yet. Also if there are any other great roads that we should drive while we're here. those locations would be cool too.

Many thanks

Shel

Skye is a superb place to with quick car, I was there a few weeks ago in the RS,
we stayed in the same hotel as the EVO guys. To get to the Quiraing just follow the A855 north from Portree to just beyond Stafin, the Quiraing will be sign posted on your left. Hope the sun shines for you..it's a stuning place.

Great road from Portree out towards (and past) Kensalyre. I remember piloting a very fast bike down there when I was about 14. Brilliant stuff!

Thanks. Was worried "creative licence" would be the case. But we have loved the quality of the roads since we left the motorways just after Stirling and so have nothing to complain about!

Portree - Quiraing - Uig - Kensalyre is our route tomorrow and we're hoping, despite the forecasts, that most of the rain blows over so that we have dry roads. The other option is to go elsewhere for a few days and then come back here on the weekend when the weather is supposed to be dry and sunny.

We thought of staying in the Uig Hotel where the EVO boys stayed but it was full.

We did! And we haven't drowned or been blown away yet! Not tenting - we don't even do that in good weather. Have been very lucky dropping into hotels and getting really good deals due to time of year (currently in a 4 star that had advertised rate of £200 and we're paying £70!).

May by heading your way in the next few days, would be great to meet up if you're free. Will email/PM you.

See if Skeabost have any rooms. It went a bit downhill after my family sold it, but apparently thriving under new management now. They have a (very wee!) golf course and a brilliant fishing river.

Interestingly and in no way to take any glory away from Skye is that the cover shot and a few of the other ones are taken on the A82 in Glencoe. The cover shot (correct me if im wrong) is taken on the straight between the waterfall at the gorge and Clachaig (Bar). This particular road offers no real driving pleasure but if your a 'city slicker' you will likely crash looking at the scenery! I have mentioned this before on here but if you are looking for a bit of fun as soon as you get to Glencoe village (on the A82) heading north at the Shell Gleaner garage turn right for Kinlochleven and you take a very interesting route round the loch rather than crossing Ballachulish bridge. The road is suitable for any car and is 10% single track at the most and its wide single track. Just watch out for the wild mountain goats!

Ive been to the location of the hairpin on Skye and it was a bit bumpy in my Defender to be fair. Exceptional scenry thought.

It's funny you don't rate the A82 around Glencoe for driving pleasure. I always love it. Some very challenging sections to get satisfyingly correct.

Do you drive a very quick car? Perhaps that is an issue, I never have anything particularly quick so most of it does feel like I am working the car.

As for Skye, so many routes to, around and from that are absolutely brilliant.
