highlights:

A86 from Newtonmore along loch laggan - amazing bit of wide single carriage way

A803 fort william to Mallaig (esp. after loch Eil)

there and back in a day! much fun

We went up on bikes from Fort Bill to Mallaig and couldn't get on the ferry, so we took the coastal road back via the Corran Ferry.

Fantastic route both ways

I used to do the Mallaig run 5 days a weeks in my works transit connect, I love that road ! Last time I drove up there it was all getting dug up road works and such.

I was working so just my trusty diesel rep mobile! Still great fun though!

Definately planning to re-do the route when I get my bike though...

Absolutely love the Mallaig road, shame about what is at the end of it but you can't have everything smile

Gents - my ambition in the 60's was to do the trip from Fort Wiliam to Mallaig on the old road .In 1965 ,after my last day at lochaber high I set out on my old and trusty Raleigh tourer .Some hours later I'd done what I'd always dreamed of doing - cycling from Fort William to Mallaig - not along the road you know as at present ,but along the old road .Fort William to Glenfinnan was not much of a problem .Glenfinnan to Lochailort is as at present .The rest ,from Lochailort to Mallaig is as the old bits might suggest -not a lot of fun on an old bike .Nowadays -Fort Wiliam -Mallaig - piece of cake ,apart from the Glenfinnan/Lochailort bit .And it's only 48 miles .
