Spotted a silver estate car Vectra? in layby on city bound side opposite SECC with a tripod set up at back of car

I was heading opposite way so details a bit vague

Anyone any idea what it may have been?

Most probably a DVLA ANPR camera for those who do not wish to partake in the Road Tax scheme

Not much point in that as there were no other vehicles about to catch anyone

Same thing they use at the M73 cut off from the M74, they hide on the bridge behind the motorway signs and you can't see them untill you're right under.

I'm all for the ANPR's but they've been there with the speed cameras a couple of times too, sneaky s.

They don't need anyone to catch you, just the thud of a fine through the door for using your vehicle whilst untaxed

This seems to be done without chase cars in Scotland, with cameras on very busy urban roads with no chase cars like this vectra and the berlingo type van that sits in the layby leading down to the tunnel on balshagray avenue.

Cameras on motorway gantries with police chase cars waiting on the slip road seems to be the method favoured on the M6 by the English po-po.

Almost definitely a road-tax camera. I've seen them over Loch Lomond way, as well as on the flyover just as Glasgow airport.

Thats because these camera's are being operated by DVLA personnel.

The ones with chase cars and bikes are the police operated ANPR cameras, which do get used in Scotland believe me.

The main responsibility for catching tax dodgers has been given back to DVLA in an effort free up police resources.
