Should be starting some work in Kilmarnock towards the end of Jan 2010 and was looking for some recommendations for a good Bed & breakfast / guest House / self catering in kilmarnock or surrounding area.

You might have more luck in Ayr & Prestwick, just a few miles down the A77 (watch the specs!)

Troon is probably your best bet. Plenty of B&Bs, a few good places to eat and no speed cameras to dodge on your way to work either.

Try your best not to stay in Killie!!

The George Wimpey site in Altonhill is about 3 minutes drive from the A77 Glasgow to Stranraer road, so about 25 - 30 minute drive from Ayr (I do this drive every day) and aout 5 - 10 minutes less from prestwick, depending on traffick.Troon is reached from the other end of the town and is probably about the same drive time as Ayr although it is A class roads and not dual carriageway. If you type WESTERN ROAD KILMARNOCK into google earth then look for KILMAURS ROAD you will find Altonhill on the left.
If you look up the western Road to Arran Avenue you will see a b&b called the Tamarind which i think is still there and would only be 5 - 10 minute walk from the site.

HTH
