i spent a fair ammount of time working out stop-over area's so as not too have too much driving in one day and big town city names are just so you can find the way. dont have to go motorway all the time etc. obviously no dates set out but a rough guide. maybe could be cut by a day somewhere to make it only 1 week off work for some.

That's a lot of driving in the time you've alloted.

I'd love to do it but i'm planning on Le Mans this year and i've got the Norway tour with PN planned too.

Keep us posted. smile

350 a day is quite a lot.

7 hoursish and a convoy never runs on time. hehe

I did a Euro Tour a few years back with a different car club. Some days were 300 odd miles and some days we were driving for 10 hours!

It's tricky to guesstimate the time it takes but when you factor in the type of roads (eg the passes), getting stuck behind other cars, photography stops, lunch breaks, trying to keep a small convoy together etc it all adds up and what you think will take 5 hours takes a lot longer than that!

I'm thinking of organising another Euro Tour, with the same club I went with in 2007, but I'd be looking at trying to keep distances under 250 miles, maybe even under 200 miles a day.

Who me ?

Suggestion for you if you don't like North Wales( thinking of traffic tallivan forces) -keep on M6 to join M42/M40 TO A34 ,thence M3 .Live near end of M6 ,and used to do trips to Southampton and back via M40 -not bad trip .Would say somewhere about Brum is halfway - don't know about trip from Edinburgh -A/M74, but via west coast to about as far north as you is not too bad a trip .

hmm il have a think and respace the stops. edin to carlisle via the route i put in is a great road then a bit of motorway to make up time if need be. splitting the uk part into 2 days was to make it fun rather than 600 odd miles of driving for the sake of it. maybe im just too hardcore in long distance driving but i take you comments on board about distances. hard to guage whether it would be too much for a day or too little or having a day with no significant road or stop.

Ive done

Edinburgh - Euro Tunnel

Calais to Nurburgring

Hotel for 3 nights & 16 laps +fuel

Then in reverse order.

£1000 & i was driving, my passenger spent about £500.

I think your cost quote is rather distant from what it will actually be wink

As above, I go with Ross on the ring run - Direct there and back (3 night stay)without a fancy hotel or any scenic routes is usually the best part of a grand.
Cost estimates may be a little out and as others have stated, once you've done a few days of 5hours plus driving it stops being quite so much of a pleasure.

If I was planning something like this out then I'd look to make the distances shorter for each day.

Just wondering if it might be worthwhile looking at doing it as a sort of extended ring trip, do a trip down to stelvio etc. Will look at the distances etc doing that, though I'd imagine there would be some reasonably good roads further north.
It really depends what everyone is after so just throwing that out there!

Monaco to geneva to marranello in one day is only going to leave time for sleeping, much of the days the same, that sort of trip needs drawn out over two weeks, cut it down to monaco/stelvio/porsche tour/nurburgring for a week, going from rosyth so there can be a piss up on the ferry! assed driving through england!

Its cheaper to drive to the tunnel than use Rosyth. In fact its cheaper to drive to Hull than use Rosyth!

A few of us did that last year, total over 5 days was about £800 including fuel.

When I was organsing it I did look at having a bash at the some of the Alpine Passes, but you need to be very careful about timings as the weather gets bad a lot earlier than you think.

Ideally you would want a days driving followed by 2 days working from a base to explore the roads. Even then you only want to be doing about 300 miles a day max moving between places. Any trip to Europe has to take in at least a couple of days at the 'Ring, as you'll never get enough done in a day.

My plan would be

Ferry Hull-Zeebrugge
Hoof it down to the 'Ring on arrival
2 or 3 days to explore the 'Ring and local roads (some belters to be found)
Full day to get to the Alps
2 days in one place
Another days driving moving base camp
Another 2 days working from a base
Another day driving either heading further south or back up to the 'Ring
Blast back to Zeebrugge for ferry home

Still going to cost you the thick end of £2.5k each for all the mileage and hotels/food etc.

I crossed Newcastle to Amsterdam then on the way home Le harve - Portsmouth but as you say it depends where you are going i was heading back up north from my aunt and uncles and i used to drive portsmouth - home most weekends when i was in the navy so this seemed like the best plan for me only took 7 hours to get back from portsmouth at the time of night we got in.
