I just think that's superb. Would perhaps make more sense selling it on rather than using it as a patrol car, but it gives a bit of an "up yours" to criminals perhaps, although I doubt they care to be honest...

At least! 22"?

I'm not convinced that this is proper use of a public asset.

...nor that there are sufficient safeguards in POCA to ensure that it is properly a public asset.

The whole point of using it rather than selling is a PR stunt with at least 2 objectives:

  • Get in the papers and show the public that they are taking the proceeds of crime off of criminals (I wonder how many people know the number of criminals who drive around Glasgow in flashy cars)
  • To give some of the drug dealers a fright which might discourage people from getting into the trade.
I've no idea whether it will have any effect on the second of those objectives but it's worth a try!
