I'll tell you what team its not easy selling your car.

As a good few of you will know my p&j was a mint 2003 911 C4S, 35k miles, well spec'd, still in the official porsche warranty scheme and did I mention it was minted. New Tyres fitted all round and ready for sale (thanks National tyres for a great deal and prob best cost available due to price beating offer).

After the numerous cheeky offers, timewasters etc I had a chap contact me from bristol who seemed very genuine. Many photos emailed later haggling completed all was ready for J to fly up and pick up the car, subject to the car being okay'd in a porsche 111 point check and therefor able to be re warrantied for another year.

Car booked in for check on Monday, buyer flying up on wed to pick up. Should be money in the bank you would think.

£225 for a check later, car comes back with corroded inside of brake discs, tyres didnt have an N stamped on the side therefor invaldated the warranty, easily fixed for £2600. SH*T! Even worse was that the pads were all fine and the external discs were perfect.

As you can imagine neither the buyer or I were happy about taking such a hit or even half the hit.
Step 1 - phone National Tyres paisley, complain that N rated tyres were ordered but that rears were correct spec and front were not. National tyres were brilliant, no complaining, no "oh we'll need the receipt" just "our mistake bring the car in and we'll change them, oh the buyers coming up on Wed, no probs, we'll have them couriered here immediately" - TOP Top service.

Stage 2 - phone around porsche secialists to get quotes for brakes, Motortune and RPM both very helpfull and great service but we went with Drew Paterson Garage in Newton Mearns, just taken on a Porsche specialist mechanic who again had parts couriered in and did a fantastic job with a great price and even took the time to phone my buyer and have a chat with him to keep him in the loop. Again Top Top service and they gave me an mot at trade price. They have said anybody who mentions PH to them will get the same deal - a trade price mot.

phoned porsche back to say that tyres and brakes were being done and could we get the car back in to get the raised items signed off. "No problem but we cant now do it untill next week and it'l cost you another £225 for another check.

Phoned Porsche Edinburgh and explained the situation, "no probs bring it in and we will squeeze it in for you, would you like it warrantied aswell?." so picked the car up from Drew paterson via National tyres for the foc tyre replacements and drove down the M8 to edinburgh. £225 later check done incl a foc removal of bumper and air ducts cleaned the car was ready as within a few hours. Left the car there overnight, picked the buyer up at the airport early the next morning and went to Porsche edinburgh to pick up the car. Warranty extended keys handed over, took the buyer out to see his new car, the technician brought it round and they had valeted the car from top to bottom "couldnt have it being handed over any less than perfect" said Mr Porsche.

It might not seem a lot written down but what a majorly stressfull and time consuming week but Ive handed over the best possible car I can to a very pleased buyer. Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou to Scott at porsche edinburgh, Robert at Drew paterson and National tyres for service over and above this week.

Now is it just me or have other people had the same kind off hassle selling?

Perhaps I've just been lucky buying/selling cars privately, although perhaps it's also been because the cars involved have been worth far less and hence buyers/sellers less fussy (not meaning that in a bad way!).

I've sold my previous 2 cars and bought my most recent 2 cars plus the wife's current via PH classifieds. No issues so far despite all deals involving long-distance buyers/sellers. I arranged an inspection for my Z4 when I bought it in Hartlepool, and lucky I did as it picked up 2 snapped rear springs which I used to bargain further with. The buyer of my Ibiza also arranged an inspection of it via the local Seat dealer - nervous times for both of us - but I've never had any hassle from private buying or selling.
