Moray Motor Museum

Spent the Easter weekend zooming about the Inverness area, what fantastic roads we have! A stunning couple of days with every type of weather you could imagine, sun, rain, snow, mist, hail and some massive winds too.
The Z3 was in its element and despite the rain/hail/snow we managed to bin a (very) recent pair of Toyo`s...worth it though
The Jag was just as much fun and the recent Yelow stuff pads got a thorough work out and wow do they smell when hot!
I sneaked out of a wedding we were attending for a zip about and `found` the MORAY MOTOR MUSEUM in Elgin.
My advice is if you are within a hundred miles of Elgin, find this little place and be ready to be amazed and more than a little impresssed at the cars they have on show. Not dusty, boring old tat but dazzling race and concours winners. I had the place to myself and the chap on the ticket desk gave me a guided tour including a close up of almost all of the exhibits. The best £4.50 I have ever, ever spent
Definitely well worth the ear bashing I got when discovered sneaking back into the wedding reception!!!!

Disgracefully I live in Elgin and despite saying for years I will go I haven't been yet, I know that they have a number of significant cars in there and both the owner and his son race historic cars, a number of the exhibits are owned by local collectors and sometimes change depending whether they are using them. If you have been to Alford for the supercar meets chances are you'll have seen Darrin's XJR15 Jag and he also races an Aston, I attended an event years ago when the Jaguar jets were still at Lossie where his father raced a Jaguar jet with a D Type ex Le mans car (narrowly beaten by the plane but peri track was wet and he had wheelspin into 3rd gear. Thinking about it I promised my pals son we would do something with his school hols so a visit might be on this week,

Also stay in Elgin and was there on Saturday morning and been going every Spring for years . They only get about 3000 visitors per year and this musuem is probably one of the best in Scotland in terms of classic & racing cars..we dont appreciate whats on our own doorstep .
Its amazing the quality of the cars on display and I would dread to guess the potential value in the building of all the cars on show . They have also a workshop downstairs with a few restorations going on.
Got the guided tour from the old guy who can offer a fair amount of information about the local classic cars and how Darren McWhirter is doing in the racing season , but he leaves you alone to browse and day dream...
Very occasionally something comes up for sale - I remember a couple of years ago Mrs McWhirter's red Stag with only about 10000 genuine miles on the clock - it was about 30 years old and still brand new !
Many of the exhibits never touch the road now which is a great pity . My favourite is the silver grey Jensen 541R - its been there for years ..
Darren - if your reading this I will offer to drive any of your cars for you!!
Regards
