Hi Guys,
Me and Mrs G will celebrate our weddibg anniversary in a couple of weeks. I was thinking of getting the seaplane up to Tobermory , having dinner and staying overnight. Since I havent been in Tobermory for a few years, I thought I would ask for recommendations as to where toi stay and where to have dinner?

GO HERE!! www.westernisleshotel.co.uk

Its the best in Tobermory!! get one of the master sea view rooms, its not expensive, and we love it, my Mrs and i go there at least 3 times a year,

And there is a superb fish and chip van on the main street i think open only at weekends, great fish and chips,

while there go the coastal walk along to the lighthouse (the path is just below the hotel at the wee ferry terminal)

also walk around the harbour to the old AROS house grounds, HouseNow sadly flattened, but the walk through the grounds are superb, and get down to the old harbour, well worth a look!!

For drinking you cannot beat the Mishnish hotel / pub, great fun and very friendly indeed!

A 5 star Galloway recommendation!!

As an alternative, you can fly to Barra and land on the beach, and stay here http://www.isleofbarrahotel.co.uk/

Nothing like as much 'vibe' as Tobermory but the beaches are miles better. (Even the one that's used as a runway!)

Just a thought.

Thanks for that Steve, that is an option, I'm old enough to remember when the flight from Glasgow to Stornoway used to stop off on the beach on South Harris, great fun!

I think my whole idea is on hold at the moment because of that Icelandic volcano!rolleyes

Booking a suitable date on the seaplane from Glasgow is difficult (Certainly if your going over a weekend) We've just recently got dates that suited, its only taken a year! If I didnt have a voucher to use I'd have told them to stuff it and drove up wink
