Were you on the Stirling Run 2nd May??
Discussion
Hi Guys & Gals,
I'm looking for your thoughts on what improvement we can make for the next Stirling run?
It sounds like most of us had a good time and your kind words are appreciated.
I have my thought on how the day went and what improvement could be made.
It started off with the lead guys going without me!! I was thinking, i hope they look at the directions. It was fine and was actually nice been in amongst other cars. Picking a route can be a difficult decision. Too many smaller roads and junctions and you have the danger of losing people. Toilets, fuel and food stops, aswell as time and distance of the route all have to be considered.
I enjoyed the run up through Glencoe as it is stunning. The roads after Tyndrum are pretty quick and it's easy for some to push it on a little too much. The distance i drove from my house was 220 miles and i'm only around 12 miles from the start. Some of you will add 50 miles+ and more to that figure.
My thoughts for the next run is to have more twisty roads and less big straights. Keep the mileage down a little bit. I thought the lunch stop was good and was happy with the food, the swiftness of service and price. I would love to have a BBQ/picnic style lunch, weather dependant. A 15 min stop before lunch, possiblly 1.5 hrs for lunch and then 15 mins stop on return leg might be better. Nice to have the time to talk to more of you and have a good look at all the cars.
I realise that we will all have our preferred types of roads depending on driving style and car. It was nice to see more wife's & girlfriends on the run. Once i see what date Paul & Andrew are propossing for their run, i will look at some dates. Remember nothing stops anyone else organising a run in your favourite roads. I would also love to do a weekend run with camping, although if it attracts big numbers will be difficult to organise.
You can email or pm me your thoughts if you don't want to post them up.
Cheers again for a great day.

Alright Mate,
I know I wasnt on the run so cant really comment (still raging)
My only thought from reading the comments is that there appears to be two types of guys coming out, cruisers and "spirited" drivers. Prob best demonstrated by the overtaking comments arriving. Maybe setting off in two groups or two slightly different routes to the same lunch destination?
My only worry about groups is we may actually encourage spirited driving and nobody wants any unlawful driving or god forbid, a serious accident.
Otherwise all good mate, slightly less beaten roads, summer bbq either at lunch or evening = brilliant day out.
Finally, can anybody remember that wee race track in Ayr that appeared on the threads recently. Hiring that surely wouldnt be too expensive, a run down. set the bbq's up and a day of tracktime, burgers and banter.
cheers

I was over 270 miles for the day. I don't mind doing it as that's why i bought the type of car i did, although i can understand why others with the more expensive / fragile toys would.
It was a nice place to stop for lunch and i love the BBQ idea for the better weather. How long did we stop for at lunch that time?
My girlfriend really enjoys the runs and i imagine she'll be at all the ones i attend.... although i'm not sure she'll be keen on any camping
The only thing i missed about that run was the dukes pass that we did back in november. It was my first time doing it and i loved it.
I'm never driving anywhere near ten tenths but i do enjoy a hoon. Plenty of overtaking and i don't think i've upset anyone on any run.
Just got to accept if someone in front isn't of the same commitment level or doesn't have as fast a car. Go round them when it's safe. Think i do as much overtaking as i do being overtaken. Bloody 500 horsepower Porsches

Dukes pass is on my list again - was on both my runs last year.
As mentions some nice roads Perthshire. I like around Creif/Killin area too.

Dont get me wrong, I like to hike on as much as the next chap but some of the comments made me cringe.
It makes us look like a bunch of t

There was one incident that was mentioned with someone cutting in just a bit too tight. It was not in anyway a free for all with everyone driving like idiots - if it was then i wouldn't arrange another run. Prehaps things like that should not be discusses on the forum or is it best to bring it to light??
If possible i would like to keep replies on this thread to comments about how to make the run better and from those WHO WERE THERE, for their opinion.
You are welcome to start your own thread for anything else you want to discuss.

Thats you sideways on a public road in your profile picture yeah?!?Dont get me wrong, I like to hike on as much as the next chap but some of the comments made me cringe.
It makes us look like a bunch of t
ts going on about hairy overtaking manoeuvres etc.The only improvement I would suggest having been on a couple of these now is specific stopping points along the route, maybe more often than there is just now, so cars can be bunched back up instead of playing catch up (pulling overtakes in the process) and keeping everyone kind of together (with a designated pace setter out front), rather than seeing the same six PHers for the best part of the day.
We stopped at the Green Welly on the way back as it was on the route listing but half the group sailed by as we wondered where everyone had gone to.
The spirited drivers & cruising drivers thing is a tricky one, if I've got a DB9 on my back bumper on a drive like this then I'm going to have the hammer down but a pace setter and a group running in a line would keep me on the right (left) side of the road.
I think the standard of driving shown by the PHers was a damn site better than some of the exploits of Joe Public!
Having been on a few single marque runs in the past, i did wonder how the varied machines in attendance on Sun would mix but i think it worked great.
Can we just remove all coaches from the road before the next one?

Coaches, caravans and t
ts in people carriers that don't look in there mirrors before pulling out !! That was the only bad driving I could see myself and I was at the front with the big power cars and have to say they all were fast but( and can't stress this enough) safe drivers.
Now my driving was at moments rough around the edges but could only say that I tried to be as safe as possible, although trying to keep up with cars of that calibre , and drivers with mire experiance wad undoubtably hard !!

I think the day went well I dont think there is much room for improvement. To get the good roads I dont think you would beable to plan the route much shorter, with a large number showing up its hard to keep everyone happy. The food stop was perfect, a BBQ sounds good but with the weather we get up here its hard to get the right day so would need a back up plan.
Was a very good day (my own little problem taken into account), some very "oh that was close" moments but no more than what you would find on an average day out. I did the better part of 300 miles on the day
but a car is there to be driven. There are some excellent roads north of Perth up to Glenshee and Pitlochry etc. But then again I'm biased as it's my neck of the woods. My little fella is looking forward to whatever is planned (provided I'm not offshore).

My little fella is looking forward to whatever is planned (provided I'm not offshore). In general it was a good run. What I would like to see more of is driving within your car capabilities. I know there's a bit of the pressure if you've got quicker/more powerfull car on your tail, but don't let that push you to do something stupid... Just let him/her go and don't try to match his/her pace endangering yourself and others.
I would also like to see a couple more stops. Just to get folks back together, because when I'm going on the run like that I want to drive with other guys (or at least as close to them as possible) and not on my own at the very end. If I would like to drive on my own I can go for a drive myslef...
Don't get me wrong guys, I really enjoyed a day and will definitely go next time but would like to see a bit more consideration for each other.
I only moved to Scotland last year and before that I was on quite a few runs down south(Kent area), driving few different cars, and as much as each time it was a bit of a race, we always stayed together because that what the whole day is about.
Sorry if it sound a bit bitter but I had a bad day at work today
At the end of the day I am taking my hat off for Kenny because that was one of the best organised runs I've been to.
Thanks guys and looking forward to next one (but I need to get a quicker car to keep up
