Margaret Thatcher effectively destroyed British industry.

At least with the Tory-Lib Dem pact a number of Tory policies will be watered down or perhaps pushed back.

Saw the news briefly last nite...actually fell asleep watching BBC parliament channel. David Cameron reminded me of 'the cat that got the cream'.

Good luck to him. I just hope the far right don't get a bit restless. Mind you he has most of his Eton buddies as ministers. That's a good representation of the public!!

Forgive me for making use of my democratic right to vote for who I like.

On a side note, who are you to put down how the Scottish nation has voted? If the people of Scotland want Labour ministers at westminster over Nationalists, Conservatives or any other party, on what basis do you put down your fellow countrymens opinions exactly? Do you think the common man has voted tactically? So what if they have! The people have spoken, the Judas Democrats have sold their souls and now we have an Etonian Tory in number 10. All I can say is pity help Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the general working class, as they're all screwed.

I dont grudge anyone the right to vote for what ever party they desire and would not deride them for doing so its called democracy but the figures below suggest a very low opinion/support for the other "major" (National/UK) party in Scotland which has been the case since a certain woman was in power

But hey maybe change MAY be good though only time will tell but my suspicion is another election before year is out

The tories might not be great news for Scotland (or Britain) but there is no way that inept bunch should be allowed any jobs after the last few years.

Policy means so little if they are all useless and corrupt.

I only know one Scot who voted labour from my group of friends/colleagues (ranging from 20-ish to 50-ish). In this group of people are tradesmen (self-employed and employed), "professionals", academics, students and entrepeneurs.

And only one voted labour. He's the guy with the "Tories are who the rich/posh folk vote for so I'm not doing that" attitude and it's this that I find so frustrating.

Is this the attitude that won Labour so many seats in Scotland? I think so. Never mind that Labour really haven't done all that much for the working class in the last 13 years.

The benefit scumbags have done OK from Labour, maybe there are just loads of them in Scotland. rolleyes

Certainly will concede that in some parts down here there is a "put a Labour badge on a monkey and it would get elected" attitude but when you look at national figures they cant all be benefit scroungers who probably would not be bothered to vote anyway

Indeed, I was delighted to hear Cameron state last night that his vision of Britain is that it should be built on the back of taking responsibility and not asking what you're entitled to or owed by your country.

Labour has done nothing to encourage people to work hard and do well, only those that want to take seem to have done well out of them, I'm self-employed and every time I write a cheque to HMRC I have visions of it being used to provide a fully furnished home for some immigrant with a fortnightly cheque for him to send back home to his family.

I don't have strong support for any party but as someone else has said Labour have been inept and someone else deserves an opportunity to do better, it wouldn't be difficult.

As a colleague of mine stated this morning, in Scotland Labour MPs could be blacked up and have Gary Glitter as their campaign managers and the blinkered public would still vote for them, purely on the basis that they've been brought up on a diet of Conservatives = Thatcher = bad, without having the savvy to think for themselves.

I love how people point out that the PM, and the cabinet went to Eton like it's a bad thing.
Surely it's a good thing that the people who run the country had the benefit of the best private education the country could offer them.

Or should we be picking thicko's from failing comprehensives to make the big decisions?

I didn't have the benefit of a public school education - but I'm not going to hold it against people that did as they tend to be amongst the brightest and best.

(although Hague was at pains to point out on the today programme this morning that he was educated by a state school - which goes to show that the Conservatives don't pick on the basis of having gone to Eton)

The majority of the public are as thick as st - I'd rather the cabinet wasn't representative of them....
