I am always intrigued by who reports posts to the moderators. I posted earlier with an offer I thought would genuinely benefit Scottish PH'ers (won't go into it, as it was banned
). The email I got back from PH said that I was in breach of Rule 7 which apparently bans the posting of stuff which directly results in my personal gain.
I've had a post banned before for the same reason (a few years ago now). On each occasion, I stood to make nothing, but was offering a great deal more as an offer to my fellow PH'ers than anything else. Someone on here got a very good value Brian James trailer last week, but it didn't benefit me, just the PH'er who bought it, and the guy who sold it. I consider that a public service - giving something back to PH. Same goes for the post that was just banned - nothing to do with me, but people could have got a genuine bargain.
I can understand the need to prevent people from using PH as a free advertising service, but what really intrigues me is who reports these posts? It seems downright weird to me. I noticed someone was selling a couple of bikes they had won the other day - did that post get binned?
It is particularly interesting as there is no doubt that some businesses have been allowed to promote themselves on PH where others are moderated.
Any thoughts?

A post got pulled here recently with a chap also seeking help on where to sell his wifes car, seemed a bit heavy handed, not a spammy post saying buy my car, help knowledgable car folk where is a good place to sell my wifes car? not asking PHer's to buy it, just some help. By the same arguement shoudl the classified and business sections of the site be shut forthwith!
Going to nip this in the bud I spotted your thread in the forum no one reported it except me to say that I was removing it and the reason it was being removed, your post is still sitting in the mods forum for reference.
We have a dictate that no adverts of any sort are allowed on the forum the classified are free after all. As there are only about 20 mods and 1000's of threads & posts daily we do not get to read them all if you see an advert in the forums then please report it and it will be removed.
Hope that answers your question, however if you still feel the need to question why it was removed then please email Paul Garlick via his profile.
HTH.

I had a post withdrawn for letting the Honda S2000 owners on here know I had a performance exhaust I was offering for sale at a really low price, after it was withdrawn it sold on ebay for much more than I wanted to let fellow PH'ers have it for. It don't see why we can't let fellow PH'ers in on a bargain before it goes into the classifieds / ebay at market value.

That's what the classifieds are for.By the way, i've got some magic beans going cheap anyone want them?
Been here before with Mr Garlic, who is a good guy. Fair enough, rules are rules, but this never really used to be an issue in the pre-Haymarket days, and it seems wierd that you can sell a car in the classifieds, but can't discuss it in the forums. You'll notice I didn't spam the forums, but left it to the Scottish forum. Anyhow, you've got a job to do, and we appreciate it, but still think the policy is peculiar.
Also, is there a truck section in the classifieds?

Everyone agreed to the rules when they signed up, if it free of charge then it can stay, try to sell it for a 1p it gets deleted.
As I've said you can advertise on PH and it's free it's called the classifieds, you can still help your fellow PH'ers you just can't advertise in the forums.

Well all I can say is that it was exactly the same in Teds day, I should know I've been a moderator for both Ted and Haymarket for seven plus years now and that particular rule IIRC hasn't changed. Big Al. said:

They were only stealing because they were poor....deevlash said:
it was a link to a classified, not an actual advert though, 2 totally different things. Theres loads of threads where people link to the classifieds, I can think of at least one involving a dalek that was for sale that was contributed to by a mod...
A dalek?! I'd swap my magic beans for that!Gassing Station | Scotland | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff

Really, perhaps i wont swap my magic beans then.
