Anyone know somewhere cheap where i can get my aircon regassed on my mx5 to check whether the compressor is goosed or if it's just needing a regas?

Preferably edinburgh area

I need to get mine done as well, either in Glasgow or Inverclyde (work in former, live in latter). Is there an issue with just getting the regas done at Halfords??

Has anyone tried the top up and leak stoppers that Halfords sell?

i'm about to update my website too with the new defra laws on why re-gassing is becoming illegal, the phasing out of our current refrigerant gas, why its been illegal for 2 years for halfords to even mention air con and lots more interesting studies.

Pardon my ignorance, but does a full diagnostics mean i'll have cold air at the end of it, or is this something different? biggrin

if the system passes all tests during the diagnostics then i will carry out a full re-charge of the system tetraflourethane on top for an additional £12

not a problem, just give me a call and i'll book you in, however it may be worth noting now that some american models were originally filled with r12 freeon and is no longer available this side of the great big pond. i can explain how you can check this over the phone

How much just for a regas? My Octavias aircon is working fine, but just isn't cold enough!

Im pretty sure he cant just re gas a system?.

As far as i know it has to be proven there is no leaks on the system being regassed and provide a certificate of test otherwise its illegal.

very right, however i dont need to produce a certificate, but if defra test the vehicle after me its my freedom from a six by six cell thats at stake.

skoda octavia - usually and electrical fault holding these back, again i think a diagnostic visit is best before damage to the system from improper compressor clutch cycling causes system failure

So does this mean that re-gasses are no longer possible or am I being thick?

My TT needs recharged; the system kicks in, but the air isn't quite as cols as it should be.

If it needs 'new' gas that means the 'old' gas has gone somehwere, i.e leaked out. There is no point just adding gas without first finding where the leak is and fixing the leak.

This should have always been the case, but only recently has it been made a requirement that the leak is found, or at least looked for!
