My Seat Altea is coming up for 3 years and with it being a modern diesel, I am a wee bit wary having a car thats out of warranty. In fact I put it in for its 40k service this week and now getting a new Dual Mass Flywheel thingy fitted under warranty. Warranty expires in mid June.

Obtained quotes from Warranty Direct and await quote from SEAT. One part of me says don't bother but there are various horror stories of things going wrong in modern diesels, for this particular car the ABS/TCS module seems to be a favourite at £1k repair costs.

Anyone any experience of after market warranties?

I've heard various reports about warranty direct with some very mixed feedback. I've only ever dealt with manufacturers waranties. They are normally more expensive however tend to be far more comprehensive. Either that or stick a few quid away into an account every month and use that as a "repair fund"

you have to shop around. scotsure, lummley and one or two others you will get on the net, most are ok but read the small print. also give them a phone and get the facts right before you part with your pennies.

the dealer specific ones are the only ones worth a punt, stay away from the roadside recovery options and insurance companys, remember any vag aftermarket warranty will do, the skoda one is excellent

Im with warrenty direct with the freelander, i have the full coverage and it cost £550.

Sadly ive had to use it twice since march and they have paid out in full for a new master cylinder, slave cylinder, 2 front propshaft bearings and will be covering a worn out propshaft joint.

I too it to a garage of thier choice (5 miles away) and i do no paperwork.
They pay for all labour and parts for all cars under 60k, then after each 10k mileage you pay 10% of parts upto 50% at 100k. they still cover all labour.

I have had genuine new landrover parts fitted which will cost a fair bit!

Very impressed with them and the garage i have been using.

I know the total cost for my first job of bearings and the slave cylinder, gearbox out job on a freelander was £752! so ive saved a good few quid and i have the cover till next april or 62k and im at 52k at the moment.
