Glasgow to Aberdeen
Discussion
Taking a run up to Aberdeen in a few weeks time and just wondered whether anyone had helpful tips on the route. Assume the best route is via Stirling, Perth, Dundee? How frequent are the Gatsos on the A roads in that neck of the woods and will the motor be able to get me up in a couple of hours or so or is the traffic quite busy on these roads come the evening? I reckon it's a 170(?) mile sprint but grateful for insight from regular users. Cheers Oli
If you're coming up the A90 then there are no fixed cameras until you get to Dundee; between Dundee and Aberdeen there are about 10 cameras but all are easy to spot; traffic shouldn't be too bad outside of the towns and cities (unless there are some roadworks on the go that I don't know about).
If you fancy taking a scenic, non-camera route, try getting to Perth then heading north-west up Glenshee, into Braemar then east to Aberdeen (but this'll take longer as you're effectively doing 2 sides of a triangle).

There are also a couple of Gatsos between Glasgow and Stirling and the A80 average speed cameras are a pain.If you fancy taking a scenic, non-camera route, try getting to Perth then heading north-west up Glenshee, into Braemar then east to Aberdeen (but this'll take longer as you're effectively doing 2 sides of a triangle).

Maybe I will take the longer route as I haven't been to that part of Scotland before and may have a little time to burn. Sadly my in-built crappy Porsche Satnav does not show cameras (let alone work out a good route!). Cheers Oli
I do this run a lot and whenever possible I will take the A822 soon after the beginning of the A9 (signposted Crieff) and do Crieff, Dunkeld, then to Blairgowrie, Glenshee, Breamar then in on the South Deeside Road if I have even extra time (turn off for Balmorral Castle when you see the sign). It's a cracker of a drive!Raffles said:

Planning on doing this route tomorrow in fact (albeit in reverse). Takes almost double the time, but the drive is epic.

'tis my favourite long-hoon; Aberdeen to Glenshee via south Deeside, cross-country to Stirling then over to Kirkcaldy and back up the East Coast road to Stonehaven, over onto the Netherley road and back in the Aberdeen Gassing Station | Scotland | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
