Well, I'm due to be kicked out of halls a week today, and of course have to get my stuff moved over to our new house. I've been doing most of it by filling a suitcase, getting a student day ticket for the bus, going across town to the new house, emptying the suitcase, taking empty suitcase back on the bus to halls and repeat. It's been a bit hectic, but I've managed to get around 65-70% of my stuff over. However, the other 30-35% of stuff is in large boxes, and this is very impractical to take on the bus. This is why I tried to argue to dad that having a car in first year would have been a good idea, but his argument of extortionate parking costs overruled this. So, my car, which would have been capable of transporting the stuff, is 500 miles away in Leicester.

I've tried contacting removal services for a quote, some of which are supposedly designed especially for students and have "student friendly" pricing, so I go online for a quote and student friendly my arse! It would be cheaper to insure my car, fly down to Leicester tomorrow, drive up and do it myself, however this is not an option either, due to working this weekend.

So, here's where I hope the magic of PH can come in, and I hope I'm not being cheeky (sorry if I am) but I'm running out of options, I need to ask is there anyone in Aberdeen who would be able to help me shift stuff across? I have around 20 boxes which need shifting, may fit into a Focus sized car in one load at a push, I'm trying to keep box sizes to a minimum. I have to have everything moved by next Friday (June 25th), however I am working until 1PM tomorrow, all day Sunday and all afternoon on Wednesday, so realistically I can only get stuff moved Saturday afternoon, and at any time Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Early Friday morning would be possible but pushing it a bit, I have to be out by 2PM and need to meet with the accommodation people so they can inspect my flat and I can argue why they shouldn't take my deposit off me because one of the other lazy gits in the flat decided to demolish parts of the kitchen and not repair it properly.

If there is anybody able to help out I would be extremely grateful, and of course, I will reimburse you for your time and any fuel costs.

Many thanks in advance,

Dan

Have you got fc insurance on a car (so will be legal to drive another car as 3rd party on your own policy)?

Nope, the insurance on my Panda ran out in February, and as I wasn't going to be driving it we did not renew, SORN'd it and its stored in the garage. And sadly I can't get the money together quickly enough to insure it again

I might have my 3.5t truck in aberdeen one day next week so may be able to help.

Worst case scenario, could you get a taxi? Make sure you've got the boxes on the pavement, get some mates to help at either end...

If it will fit in your car, it will fit in a taxi.

Drat, I was going to ask my mate yesterday if we could help you out. Hopefully you get things all sorted(as we don't have a van!). If not, give me a shout smile

I'll drink to that, I wasn't sure what responses I'd get, but I'm amazed to see how many people were willing to give up their free time to lend a hand; you guys are the best!

Thanks everyone for the kind offers, but its all sorted today, with infinitely many thanks to Marc (boomboompow) who came along this afternoon and helped me get everything shifted. beer
