What to do in Huntly and the surrounding area?
Discussion
Evening folks, the summer holidays are here and this year me and Penny-lope junior are heading up North for a week in Huntly (normally head to Grantown, but full this year)
So just wondering if there is anywhere interesting in the area, which is suitable for a 7 year old, as well as a 36 year old.
Thanks in advance

Never been but the Falconry Centre sounds like the kind of thing that a young loon would appreciate.
You're 30mins from Banff and the Moray coast - nice for a wee drive out and the climate is quite special.
Distillery tours might not seem ideal for a wee lad but there are lots of cool big copper things which he might like ... and you'll be able to get a wee dram. Stand by for better advice from Lefty.
As more pops in to my heid, I'll post more.
I hope you both have a great time and are made to feel very welcome in the North East.
Cheers,
Eric

Oh aye, Macduff Aquarium (Macduff and Banff are vitually the same place) however my wife reckons it's a bit pedestrian.Cheers,

Huntly can be a bit dodgy at night, just be sensible I guess. Your about 45 mins drive from Aberdeen, and there'll be plenty of things to do there.
But then again I am from Dundee

Not sure how far you are going to be travelling from Huntly but these would be my recommendations for that part of the world.
The new Culloden Visitor Centre is pretty decent as is Fort George, there is a big hoohah on at Fort George on the 14th and 15th of August that looks to be good (check Historic Scotland for more details). Dolphin watching at Chanory Point is also well worth the trip along.

I was at Fort George just last week, and yes he would have enjoyed it but I'll just get bored The new Culloden Visitor Centre is pretty decent as is Fort George, there is a big hoohah on at Fort George on the 14th and 15th of August that looks to be good (check Historic Scotland for more details). Just had a thought P.
CT told me about dolphin watching boat trips from Cullen and / or Spey Bay that he didn't go on recently. I'll noise him up to expand. There was talk of him not seeing a minky whale ... but it's a complicated story.
BTW - when are you there? ... just so we can stalk you.
Cheers,
Eric

plenty to do up there, Cullen's well worth a visit even if just for an ice cream and it has a cracking beach if by some miracle its warm and sunny!, Go karting at Boyndie near banff, as has been mentioned Macduff Aquarium, Archeolink at Insch, Alford transport museum if he likes cars and ten pin bowling and other stuff in Elgin.
Not that much to do in Huntly itself, the falconry centre someone mentioned is probably the closest attraction.

If your not interested in Farming it would be better to go to the show on Sunday as it's more family orientated.http://www.nts.org.uk/Events/Detail/776/

It's a good show, I've been going for more than 15 years now.

Already got these two planned, plus a day in Aberdeen probably. Oh and Cullen ice cream....is that the one next to the drive under train bridge? Not that much to do in Huntly itself, the falconry centre someone mentioned is probably the closest attraction.
