i have decided its time to get the fiesta looking tip top, may aswell since i plan on keeping it until late next year any way, and need to know what products are recomanded for removing a couple of years of grime and slime that a good wash just will not move.

is tar removal going to do the job? and would you recommend buying and using a clay bar or having it done properly???

i polished the bonnet last night to goot effect before todays monsoons ruined it!!!

your help please, and i stress its is a fiesta not one of your regular PH'er 400 bhp numbers, although if any one fancies a swap for a weekend wink

Claying is definitely a good idea. It will take alot of elbow grease though.

Your best bet is to wash, clay, polish and then wax. No point in going to all the effort of cleaning it properly and not waxing it.

A good deep clean sir, using some form of APC ( All purpose cleaner ) then something like Autosmart Tardis which will remove a lot of your dirt, grime, tar spots etc before you even go near the car with a clay bar.

After this and your subsequent washing technique, apply your choice of protection again as you will remove most of this with the APC and Tardis.

If your coming along on Sunday to the Hopetoun house event and require any products, drop me a Pm and I will make sure I have them with me.

I was going to say that for stubborn tar spots and bugs and stuff I find auto glym tar remover quite useful if it won't come off easily. But for really refreshing the paint I'd just listen to what those guys are saying!

craig, ally, ian

thanks for the advice, i'm from east kilbride so stirling a bit of the beaten track for my everyday maintenance. and i think due to overspending a bit earlier in the month i won't be attending at the weekend altough i might just splash out and be skint for two weeks, would love to see how its done by a pro before i give it a go.

i see Halfrauds have a 3 for 2 on all cleaning chemicals including Auto Glym stuff so going over after work.

i never thought of the old Tardis gear, used this for years when i was sealing sunroofs for a living would remove a slab of tar if you applied enogh of it.

again guys thanks

Easy.. Get a can of Carb and Choke cleaner. It will soften any tar sos you can easily wipe it off. It doesn't hurt the paint, but it will remove any wax so I would recommend a good claying with a soft bar afterwards, then redoing the wax with whatever is your favourite.

My '87 vette picks up a lot of tar and I been using this method for years. Still shines up like new for the shows..

Cheers..
