Anybody been to a function in Scotland when the band have been called Special Edition? Long story short - having to scale wedding plans down due to redundacy - large 5 piece that where playing in marquee cancelled - marquee cancelled. Smaller reception venue means I'm looking for a smaller band - all good ones in my area booked up. An agency has offered this band to us and are holding date open - not allowed to view band first as they don't encourage viewings because they only play to " high end clients, in some of the best venues in Scotland " - price doesn't bother me and the promo vid looks good http://www.xsp.co.uk/profile.php?artist=Specialedi... - just after some info. are they actually that good or are the agency filling me with bs - the agency guy is nice enough and I know the cost is inflated because they go through an agency.

Any views if you have to a gig appreciated.

Thanks - hearing the bad is just as important as the good at this stage.

Cheers.

Hey... they are ok for a wedding band. She can sing and they are pretty much in time and almost in tune. After a few glasses you'll love 'em. I'm sure they'd be fine.

Thoroughly recommend Kutting Edge, based in Edinburgh, but who do travel (they do a dinner dance for me annually in Pitlochry).

Used them for a few years then couldn't get them one year, tried a few others and went back to them 4 years ago. They get everyone on the floor, have a brilliant guitarist who had some guitar freaks standing with their mouths open when he did a Dire Straits solo.

Take a look on youtube, you may find a clip of them on there. When I was helping to look for a band, we saw some horrific clips of bands who were recommended by agencies.

Guy on the keyboard is brutal but id say the rest of the band is ok.

The lass is actually a good singer.

Where in Scotland are you? A friend of mine does weddings with his band and I can ask him if they are free...

OP, have you tried the band directly? Their own website (warning: has background music) suggests they can provide lists of public performances or try to arrange to attend a private function to listen to them. Could just be the agency fobbing you off.

Otherwise try this chap. I think he mainly does Edinburgh venues but he may be able to put you in touch with bands elsewhere.

We had a band called Deville who were great and fairly cheap compared to other bands. They were so good a few of my mates booked them off the back of hearing them at our wedding.

Seconded for DeVille - played at a Mates wedding last year and were very good!

Just speaking for myself but, if I were in your shoes, that would make me instantly strike them off the list.

Thanks for all replies - reception is at Kilconquhar Castle Estate in Elie,Fife - was originally in the marquee but now everything is in the Lindsay Room. Any recommendations appreciated - going to see a band in Dundee a week on Saturday - we've pretty much struck them off list now - think a 2/3 piece would be better. After sleeping on it I'm not too happy handing over a large deposit having not heard them.

Thanks to all so far.
