Thats round the corner from my house! Just heading up that way as well. Sits there quite regularly. Iv also seen police driving past looking for people flashing headlights to warn other drivers of the 'potential hazard'.

Someone more knowledgable can correct me, but as far as I know this isn't technically illegal.

The catch seems to be that is a fellow motorist is already speeding and you flash to warn them - then you're interfering with the evidence gathering procedure, and can get into bother. However, if you're flashing a motorist that isn't speeding then you're fine. There's a load of threads on it over in SP&L forum.

Haha, you would never get done for flashing your lights, certainly not during the day, you have to cause undue dazzle!
However there has just been a new unmarked traffic proactive team set up, they've got a blue focus ST, I'll check what else, however we should all respec the filth and drive appropriately!

Saturday night, Airbles Road in Motherwell, there were 4 cars and what must have been at least 8 police, all parked up at the Civic Centre. They pulled me for a spot check (all was well with the car!) and then let me go. What I only noticed when pulling away was they they were hiding behind the signs on the roundabout with the hairdrier. I've no problem with them trying to catch the bad drivers that constantly thrash about there but this kind of trick only makes them hated. Unmarked cars catching people driving badly, over 40 or with broken lights, I've no problem with...

Sounds dangerous for police with high vis jackets etc to be in the middle of a roundabout? Surely must have been distracting for drivers using it and a possible road safety hazard?
There is a new Ford focus traffic car in Motherwell area which is high spec as has big wheels brakes etc and have seen it pull over a few cars and park in what I think is a position which obstructs other traffic.
Perhaps those traffic police who read this may forum may wish to pass oon these safety issues to senior officers to review procedures?

Very dark green 5 series, HF59 HKV

Doubly tricky that one, its unmarked and its a petrol. Expect traffic BMWs to be diesels usually.

Saw it on the M77 this morning, only pinged due to the LED board on the parcel shelf and then noticed the extra gubbins hanging with the rear view mirror.

In fairness though, they sat with traffic doing 65ish through the 50. Whilst most people were technically speeding, nobody was being dangerous and they seemed happy to let it slide.

That will be the same undue dazzle caused when emergency vehicles use their alternate flashing main beam then?

Johny - you should suggest that they write that on the side of the panda cars rather than that "building safer communities" logo!!laugh
PS for our posters from the constabulary - it wasn't me it was a big boy who ran away.

Seen this one...seems to be doing racking up the miles so possibly a demo? Been spotted down ayrshire, glasgow city centre, hamilton, etc.. Its a right dark blue colour, black rims, stickered up with a ANPR (?) cannon/camera thing on roof.

To be honest, who can blame them for bringing in cars like this. If i had my car stolen, i'd rather one of these was chasing the scum that nicked it than a ste panda car as theres more chance the thieving fks getting caught.

All last week at lindsays garage at dumbuck in dumbarton between 7-9. Traffic car parked up in garage forecourt and two officers with new laser camera standing next to garage. YOu are done just as you come by quarry entrance as you only see them when you come round.
Then 300 yards later on same side van was parked in on left side with camera out the back doing you coming over blind hill just after garage at Milton. Across from Arnold Clark garage.
Meanwhile folk are doing flecking u turns and all sorts just up the road a bit!!!

Saw 2 marked police bikes in Shettleston this morning.

However not the usual motorbikes, these were scrambler types. Stickered in hi-vis signagae but no fancy blue lights or anything on them.

You sure?

I remember reading a lorry driver flashing his lights to make people aware of a scamera van ahead, boy ended up getting done by the courts.

They were riding through Glasgow Green last weekend too, on the night shift watching out for people stealing stuff out the piping marquees.

Yes I'm sure Lorry driver/Urban Myth would not have been done for alerting someone of a speed trap, and the vehicles are not demonstrators (above), it's a new proactive unit set up. Has been announced. Someone told me the vehicles had been seized under the proceeds of crime act from criminals, then converted (equipment added) though I don't know that for a fact....... Alerting someone about a speed trap by flashing your lights is not an offence! ("That will be the same undue dazzle caused when emergency vehicles use their alternate flashing main beam then?")
The legislation covers the emergency services who are allowed to utilise their lights sirens etc, blah blah
