Just drove past Edinburgh airport on the A8 Glasgow Road and noticed that the speed limit has been reduced to 40mph from 60mph. WHY!!!! You used to get past Ratho East bound and it was National speed limit.

I went along there yesterday in the Cerb, from the Ratho direction.

Even said out loud to the Mrs as we left Newbridge roundabout "Think I'll just just keep the speed down, they often have a van here and this'll stick out like a sore thumb" and lo and behold - 2 cops with gun on the pedestrian bridge.

Pootled past at 40, then there's a traffic car waiting right at the edge of the town (exactly where the old GLF sign used to be), everybody faffing about so I move out RIGHT as I pass the traffic car, and start to accelerate, then I see a 40 repeater sign so decelerate again. I didn't get going that fast, and they didn't come after me, so I'm hoping they had a good laugh...

I'll still be watching the post for a couple of weeks though...

I noticed this when I drove along this morning, Gogarburn to Ratho now 40mph all the way !

Road was also hoachin' with police, standing on every bridge and junction all the way down, no doubt due to the treehuggers at Gogarburn.

I dont understand why its been changed to a 40 though.

They seem to do this from time to time, during the highland show for example, no doubt this time because of the "peace camp" as another said and as usual they use this as an opportunity to give out points and take in cash!
BTW Is the normal speed limit not 70mph?

You're right, it's 70 cos it's a DC. I noticed that the "40" terminal signs (where you used to enter the limit at Gogar) are still in place, so perhaps it is only temporary. If it's permanent, it's not signed correctly!

Sorry G yes it was a 70mph and being a cynic is probably a cash cow. How many are at the "peace camp" anyway. I saw 3 mini buses of police pull out in front of me, a control unit on the RBS bridge, 2 polis on top of the pedestrian bridge at Ratho and 2 cars at Ingliston.

i've always thought it was a national 60 dc as it has no protection barrier/steel rope splitting the two sides

don't need any of that. It has 2 carriageways split by a central reserve. The reserve is the "physical barrier" referred to in the definition of DC.
