I am heading to moffat for bank holiday weekend, and I don't know the roads. But would love to try them. So can you recommend the good roads around this area please.

Leave Moffat in any direction except for the Motorway and you have amazing roads. The Edinburgh road - A701 - is superb.

Thanks for the A701, it's Great.

I did this route and it was all fun:

From Moffat A701 to Edinburgh
B712 to Pebbles
B7062 to Traquair
B709 to innerleithen
B709 onto B7007
A7 to Eskbank
Lunch at Sun Inn (Scottish Gastro pub of the year 2010)
A7 back and onto A704 for Arniston
B6372 to Temple
A6094 though Howgate
Then back onto A701
Back to Moffat

Amazing drive and a beautiful day

One of the best roads in the country! For something slower, take the other road out of Moffat heading for St Mary's Loch. Very pretty, but busy at the weekends if it's sunny and there's more blind corners and it's a bit narrower.

I went down that way for a drive in July, what a stunning road. With a new car that's bigger than the old one, I wasn't so sure about the tight and twisty bends at first, but enjoyed it. This is down by the Grey Mare's Tail waterfall.
