- Can it be done? I will moving to Edinburgh later on this month and am toying with the idea of using a car to get me to university and back as opposed to the train or bus. However I seem to have hit on a problem with parking - it costs a fair bit for a space & permit. Anyone know somewhere outside the city, which I could get to by cycling or a short bus ride, where it would be ok to park up for a few weeks?

Thank you in anticipation

Where (roughly) in town do you need the car to be close to - i.e. what side of town?

I'm sure we can probably suggest a quiet suburban street somewhere if you give us a wee bit more info.

Will be staying in the Tollcross area (in halls of residence) so would be fairly close to the centre.

At which uni/campus are you?

PP is only £80 isn't it?

Places seem to be very limited.
Still a possibility

They're first come, first serve and usually fine.

Considering you've mentioned the train, I take it you're at the new QM campus? If so, train would be infinitely easier than driving.

Living in Gairloch means you would have to drive to Achnasheen or Inverness in the first place. The train fare costs £70 return. Easier? Maybe, but could work out more expensive.

Sorry, I think I've misunderstood what you want, I thought you meant to drive on a daily/weekly basis.

Just park it up anywhere outside the parking zones, it'll be fine. Having said that, for my peace of mind I'd just get the permit and park in/near Tcross.

FWIW, anywhere around Braids/Comiston Road would be fine; nice area with buses going straight out of town.

You used to be able to rent cheap garages across the City. I used to rent one for sweetie money in Morningside, a good few years back, things may have changed.
