Knockhill - where not to park your car
Discussion
was up at clarks and when we heard on the radio that a safety car had been requested I said to my mate I would rather have a red as some cxxt could lose it coming out of the chicane and hit it. 10 seconds later.....oopppss.
thing was at the time we were under sc rules and there would have been a static yellow at mcintyres and a waved at chicane so the boy reid (if he was to act on the blue book) would have been slowing considerable and thus wouldnt have spun. foolish boy!!
another case for having control to car radios as per legends methinks

sorry for asking a possibly very dumb question.
In a situation like this does the owner of the innocent car have any redress against anyone for the costs of the repair?
Paul
Nope none at all. All part and parcel of participating in any kind of track activity. You can get insurance for public trackdays, however the excess is usually very high. I'm not too sure about insurance for competative vehicles like these ones. In a situation like this does the owner of the innocent car have any redress against anyone for the costs of the repair?

On the Cossie front, Reid spun on fluid dropped by the Martini-ish liveried one. The chicane is slippery as hell at the best of times in the wet, the fact he's spinning before the grasscrete starts next to the kerbs on the outside tells me he wasnt fully lit through the corner. Normal line sees you land and drift out to pretty much where the grasscrete starts. I'd almost say had he stayed fully lit and not steered properly through the corner he may not have spun it.
One things for sure, the other driver wants his arse felt for parking up there. Absolutely no excuse for it when there's a big expanse of grass off the track.
Oly lost traction running wide on to the exit kerb at the chicane losing him some drive and Vic got up the inside. He then came back across towards the normal racing line, squeezing Oly's nearside on to the white line and kerb at the braking zone for Clarks, and thats only ever going to end one way. The tail came round exactly like what happened to Robin Lidell last year in race 3, but in this case, Vic's car stopped Oly's spin and turned Vic in to a spin of his own.
Both of them have onboard cameras so sure it dont be a hard one for the stewards to sort out.

err Vic took the defensive line into Clarks, Oly went down the outside and tagged Vic's osr, Vic spun into the gravel and was not a happy chappie. would imagine it is in the hands of the stewards
Thats not quite the version I heard.Oly lost traction running wide on to the exit kerb at the chicane losing him some drive and Vic got up the inside. Who was innocent? - the car breaking down shouldnt have parked it up on the tarmac, and the car which hit it shouldnt have been pushing hard enough under yellows to spin. In a situation like this does the owner of the innocent car have any redress against anyone for the costs of the repair?

However, its motorsport, you have to accept the risk when taking part - if people started suing each other for incidents on track no-one would race. I do feel sorry for the drivers though - slight bad judgement on both parts means big bills all round. Made for good spectating though!

Unfortunate incident but you've summed it up perfectly there, precisely why my cossie never goes on track, I could handle me wrecking it, but not someone else. Sure they'll get fixed, not like there's a shortage of shells around! I'd heard the one that parked up was dropping fluid as well.
I'll be honest, if I was Reid, I'd be annoyed. Right from the outlap the red & white one sounded like it was having problems and it was limping badly before this happened. Plenty of time for the driver to figure out somewhere to park it up safely.

driver of escort 19 was Graham Waite a very experienced driver and as my mate who was at duffus said why he didnt go into rallyx is a mystery, the car gave a big bang coming out of butchers accompanied by a plume of black smoke so he could have parked it by the post at 4. Feel for the boy Reid as he had a big un earlier in the season but still say that as we were under sc conditions, (not 100% sure if boards were out at 4 and 6 at that point) he should have been slowing as there was a stationary yellow at 3 and waved at 4One things for sure, the other driver wants his arse felt for parking up there. sticking with what I poster earlier about the covey/mortimer incident, I was on the inside at clarks and yes oly went wide at chicane but IMO Vic gave him more than enough room, it was one of those "its going to end in tears moments"
