I work in a bar, which equates to me driving late at night. I have what some might call a slight boy racer car, but i am in fact not a boy racer.

I've been stopped many times, always after working in the bar, answer a few routine questions and now and then a VIC check. Doesnt bother me as i'm fully legal and do not drink after work. If i do drink after work i'll leave the car at home (only 10 min walk but its safer in car at night)

Although I have quite a big exhaust I'm very considerate and never rev it unnessesary when driving at night. Its starting to bug me as I'm pulled over every 2nd week or so after a saturday night of work and taking some friends home from work... The officers who stop me are usually the same ones and would as the same questions and do the same checks. I dont understand why, and was wondering maybe if it was the car i drove? Does the car you drive really have an effect on you being pulled over? If i drove a volvo or a ford mondeo would i not have this problem? I dont seem to understand.

Car + time of night and I suspect if the officers know you work in a bar they are hoping to catch you drink driving

As much as officers at the scene will tell you different the type of car your drive will have a massive impact on routine and random checks. Even more so at night and double it for leaving bars.

Oh and I sent you an email about Inveruries BiB through your profile - it might make for interesting reading.....

And if your car is the 350Z in your profile, I see it all the time as well, presumably parked at your work.

Many years back I had a spoilered up Pug 205 and I was stopped about 14 times in 18 months. Only got one fine for not wearing a seatbelt (20 metres from my house). They had it in for me, they even took a light bulb out as they suspected it was too bright and not legal, ridiculous! Only been stopped twice since then and that was 11 years ago so it goes to show it's probably the car, not the driving.

...got to remember that the average plod isn't all that clever! wink They need to have simple rules for stopping vehicles as they don't have the cerebral capacity to make well-informed decisions on the spur of the moment! wink

I'd complain if the same filth stopped me without cause repeatedly. That should stop it, they will genuinely take your concerns seriously if you are not committing any offences!
Best not to refer to them as filth though. I'm allowed !

I was stopped on the A90 on Monday morning by a Panda car.

My crime? Overtaking them at a GPS verified 70mph confused

However, I rather suspect is was the car I was driving and the fact it was 05:00 in the morning.

Have you owned the car from new? It might be that the car is "tagged" to be pulled over from previous owners actions.

Nope! Havent owned the car from new. But it was bought 20 miles away and i'm sure that Aberdeen and my local town are run by different catchment areas of the police. Plus i'm sure if the police decide to "Tag" a car they also get confirmation of sales from the DVLA, i really dont want the though of the BiB being arsey with all new owners of cars which belonged to a nutter before.

It's probably lights/exhaust that do it otherwise it's unlikely they would notice.

Its the car and your age. It will always be denied officially but its exactly that. Been told as much in the past by the more honest officers of the law. If you're a young guy out late in a fast car, you're more likely to be up to something.

Grey hair in a brown Vectra won't get looked at, regardless of the time of night!

Really stupid really as the car isnt chavved up all that much, just the exhaust which was put on by the last owner. Rally spot lights at the front.

Just annoying, its not exacly like your Starlets ect... I dont drive it loud at night and i'm actually 21. Not the quickest car either! Bet if i was in a 3 series or an audi or something i'll still get pulled over cos i'm a young loon in a fancy car! There's actually no win until you drive a Vectra or a Mondeo!!! But IMO Mondeo drivers aren't actually that sensible either! Amount of times when I was coming home from work at my placement i'll see a Mondeo doing sily speeds ect!!!
