I went on a trip to the Nurburgring recently with 15 mates, first time there was well impressed. Anyway we stayed in Ardenau, hotel looks over the track. The best bit apart from the track which i will get to in a mo was the restaurant we ate at ever night called Pinnochios. The fella who runs it is a legend, being a fat git i ordered a pizza on the way out spotting his free home delivery and the fact there were a couple of seats in the delivery van, hence we got a lift back to the hotel which was about a 20m walk. The food that night was great massive shnitzels with chips and a nice salad. On arrival to the restaurant the next night low and behold there was a bigger van with enough capacity to take the lot of us back to the hotel. Now this is what you call hospitality and i suppose business sense on his behalf, but still a nice touch.
The second night we wrote down the order in numbers 126 127 etc, and he thought the 7 was a one so we got the wrong thing, no one was worried though as it was good fod anyway, well the fella was so cheesed off with the situation that a bottle of grappa appeared and the biggest glass of beer, which duly done 1.5 rounds of the table (no facial diseases cought, bonus).
The track was immense, all sorts of exotica just parked about porsche's two a penny, nice beemers, you become numb to it. Good atmosphere though, even got a look at Sabina whats her face who is even more worth a wipe in real life than on the telly! Had a look around the F1 track as well, phenominal place.
All in door to door, ferries to and from Newcastle to Amsterdam (buffet inc well worth the money),with van-trailer containting R300, beer onboard, diesel, beer and food in Germany, 20 odd laps of the ring, few souveniers-t-shirts-mugs etc, petrol for caterham, hotel b and b, came to 480 quid from Sunday to the following Friday. I reckon thats decent going nothing was penny pinched just not worrying really about the costs just enjoying the trip.
So anyone who hasnt been, its well worth it, all the hype about the place its justified, to think that they drove around the place without any safety like whats in place now is frightening, seriously!! I think there on fatality 65 now which is a real shame, to those may they rest in peace but its a grim reminder of how unforgiving the track is.
Enjoy your trip and remember Ardenau, Pinnochio's......and dont get the order wrong, you'll live to regret the next morning!!

Undoubtedly!We were there last month and stayed in what I presume is the same hotel (Eddy's place).
There were 4 of us and 3 cars. CSL, MK4-R32 & a Z4M.

HAS to be done if you are any sort of true petrol head. Even managed to bag a lap in a 997 GT3 RS.
Cost wise I was,
Petrol £350 split between 2
Hotel 3 nights £390 split between 2
Ferry Hull - Zeebrugge £145 PP
Food and stuff probably came in at around £200 (but i did buy a fleece and a bottle of Malt)

If you respect the track, it respects you. Ive been over 6 times so far, only covered 46 laps in total.
I love the place!!
I will go there at least once every year for the rest of my life. Just to be there is amazing. I could go & maybe not even do a lap & id be happy that i was there
As Mr Trophy says, we'll be over there in May 2011. We could maybe point some of you in the right direction if you need a bit of help.

There are hundreds of ring vids but I think this is one of the best for showing the difference in commitment between a sub 8 minute lap and a 10 minute tourist lap to enjoy yourself and be part of the crowd and drink in the atmosphere. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxwRgSZiKTk
IMO you need to drive the ring in the mindset that you are NOT INSURED. One thing that was hammered into me before i went over was the need to use my mirrors and be aware of what's around me.
It was not uncommon to see some old battered BMW or MK2 Golf catching and passing with ease some GT3's or the likes.
DO NOT get involved in any racing, ease off, let them past, give yourself some clear air and then get back to having fun.
A good idea is to not time your laps as you will always be chasing that next second and that's only ever going to end one way.
Do it, there's no reason not to but just do everything you can to make it and keep it fun.

Ask Hollowpockets on here what he thinks (or remembers for that matter) of Pinochios. We went with the all you can eat & drink for €40 so he decided to drink one of every type of alcohol on the menu. Needless to say he wasn't too well. I'd suggest that you try and go mid-week also. I was there at the beginning of October and felt it was just too busy.

We stopped off for a couple of days on a Euro tour last summer. Travelled in out VW van so absolutely no intention of being on track, but simply being there is an experience. We toured the circuit on our MTBs (there's a marked MTB track around the circuit) just taking in the atmosphere. I'd love to drive it just for the experience, but every Euro trip I do now is likely to be in my campervan
