Anybody did this course at Knockhill in their own motor? Is it good value and did it meet expectations?
I would love to start going to track days next year so this looks like a good way to start for £119.
Bought for me as a present in the nineties and was lucky enough to get Ian Forrest! Best way to learn the lines and they'll show you just how quick your car can be round KH. Invaluable.I would love to start going to track days next year so this looks like a good way to start for £119.
your not breaking any laws. But if you bend your car you are not covered (clearly)
Go along, take it easy at first, and LISTEN. Also make sure you have checked your car before you go - oil, brakes, any "objects" in it removed, tyre pressure etc.
The more you take in from the instructor the better you'll be.
Still amazed that more people dont use the instructors there - some of them are BTCC drivers, and you can always learn something.
If you want to learn how to improve your skills even more though, check out www.carlimits.com . Run by Walshy (Andrew Walsh) it is absolutely superb - he'll teach you how to REALLY drive, and improve you ability, while also showing you what the car can do. I try and have a session with him every year, and especially useful before races. (he's taught some very famous people)
Really hope you enjoy KH. I did it 6 years ago and got the bug BAD :0)

Does Andy walsh come up here regularly - I know he did Crail days but that is no more - the only days I can find are on airfields down south. Go along, take it easy at first, and LISTEN. After a season of trackdays in my Impreza I decided to take a 'track lesson' and booked myself and the Impreza onto one of these.
I'll not lie to you. The chauvinist in me thought 'bugger' when I saw that my instructor was a woman (a very pretty one
). However, I will never ever think that again as she was absolutely superb and I learnt so much more about the car and the track than I ever expected. Despite being about a foot shorter than me, and my seats being fixed in place, she managed to wedge a cushion or ten behind her and then promptly stuck in two of the quickest laps my car has every done at KH. Fantastic driver. She really made it a great day by pushing me harder and harder. I'm sure the other instructors are all equally as good but I was so pleasantly suprised and at the end felt really embarassed that i'd even had my 'oh bugger' thoughts.
Do the lesson. It is so worthwhile. Best £120 i've ever spent.
Cheers
James

Andy Walsh is just down south unfortunately since Crail is no longer an option for him.
Well worth the trip though. Worth combining with some English tracks, or even some European ones.
Its only about 2-2.5 hours from North Weald (his airfield) to the Channel Tunnel :0) and he's only an hour or so from Brands dependent on traffic.
