Hi guys,

Wonder if anyone could share some information on this one for me ...
For the past 5 years or so, I've had an unhealthy obsession with drifting - and after passing my driving test just over a year ago, I decided I want to learn how it's done.

After scouring the interwebs for a while, I haven't been able to find anywhere that hosts something like a "Drift Academy" where you can go & learn.
The closest thing I've found is one of those Driving Experience days ...

I've heard rumours of a drift school at Knockhill, but alas, I can't find any info at all...

Does anyone have _any_ idea where I would be able to find such a thing?

Indeed.
Not so much fun in a FWD Mk4 Astra though laugh

Hand-brake turns only entertain me for a little while ..

My daily Hack at the moment is a rather splendid 306 GTI-6. There is never a dull moment with lift off oversteer just around the corner.

I am sure I am not the only one on here to have a "new pants please" lift off oversteer moment, especially in a pug!

Never driven a 306 myself ..
Really wanting to try something RWD though - just to see what it's like when the arse kicks out laugh

Crail, Drifting area. Speak to the owners and take along a RWD car?

Never been up to Crail, didn't know they would let you do it!
I need to find me a RWD shed and go have some fun....

Knockhill aren't so keen, they used to let us loose in the paddock until they painted it and we ruined the paint... You can use the oval/fig. of 8 at Crail on any of their Thrash days for not much dollar but it can get quite busy and is generally only 1 at a time. The best bet is the occasional full track days at Crail. There's a been a few drift only ones this year organised by SXOC/Trampdrift and they're epic fun, no issues with letting ~10 cars on track at once and its got some pretty quick corners mixed with a couple of hairpins. Keep an eye on the Scottish section of SXOC for uppcoming Crail trackdays - the next one is planned for the 20th Nov and there's a few spaces left. Beginners welcome too, if you're not confident enough for the faster stuff with other cars then the oval is available to play on one at a time too. That's pretty mcuh the response I was hoping to get from this thread biggrin

Signed up to SXOC aswell & I'll be keeping an eye on the events section - might well come along on the 20th!

Now all I need is something with RWD and I can actually think about this :P

I only realised after I posted that you weren't in rwd yet, oops! From time to time Knockhill do a drift tutoring thing in cars they supply, but from memory it really wasn't cheap.

There's plenty of information about on Trampdrift and Driftworks about just getting started, like getting a cheap rwd car and the very basic stuff to start off with, that would definitely be better in the long run as you'll get used to your own car. Most of us up here all started out using our daily driver 200sx's etc, and there's still plenty of people who daily drive their cars as well as drift them. If you're starting out the oval at Crail is ideal really, it's all 2nd gear stuff and you don't tend to be going quick enough to do any serious damage which is a bonus!

Very much doubt I'll be driving on the 20th as the S13 is getting a lot of work done just now. I should be up spectating so come say hello, I'll be the specky chap with a camera in a white M3!

Was on Driftworks a while back drooling over a guy selling a blue S13 (I think..), used as one of the Drift Taxi cars ... Fookin' sexy man.

If it's wet/snowy then you don't need power, I barely have 100 horses yet I've got to be real careful in the wet. Can't wait for winter biggrin

I was thinking about doing something like this, but with some normal track days as well as drifting. I thought about buying something fairly cheap but hopefully reliable (!) and then stripping it out, sell the bits off and hopefully recoup some of the initial outlay. Time has past on and inevitably I've let it slip away but hopefully get something done in time for next spring/summer.

Something like this would be ideal: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2180784.htm

Sell the alloys, interior, bodykit, things like electric window motors etc, all the stuff you don't need and you'd maybe get £300ish back. If you can trailer the car then you wouldn't need to bother with T&T and insurance.

Then it would be a case of buying some trick bits as and when you can. E30 parts are fairly common too and the cars are solid if looked after and well serviced.

I see this as a decent way of starting out in trackdays etc without the running costs of hurting your daily driver.

Yeah something like that is ideal, weld up the diff and throw a cheap bucket seat in and enjoy!

My work has 2 huge car parks which i played about in at nights to learn the limits of the truck.

Thinking of trying one of these drift nights but im at a disadvantage as its a 4 speed semi auto and its taken a while to learn in triptronic mode.

I was just thinking yours would be a great machine to learn drifting in biggrin

Shame so many supermarket carpark are being built/designed in a certain way to avoid having large open spaces - there always seems to be kerbs, etc put in the way. Spoilsports.

There's a couple of industrial estates around here that are nice & quiet at night - so I'm sorted there..

Already looking at options in the Classifieds too, wanna get something sorted pretty badly frown
