Oh and the scandivians don't have any hard wood forests but produce shedloads of very good wood buring stoves

See the connection?

They use softwoods

Hi Ed, Jill can occasionally get cheap and large quantities of firewood, no sure on the availability of hardwood but I'll ask.

Thanks Thinny, most of them round here dry, split and flog for crazy money.

Cheers Kenny, could you ask her if she can get some for me? Is it cut? Ive got an electric chainsaw and a log spittler if i need to cut / split myself.

Thanks for the post Andrew, guess either would suit. Can it be delivered or would i need to arrange transport.

TIA cheers Ed

Try Alistair Heggie at Edinburgh Woodlands in Breich. 01501 772126 or PM me for a mobile. 3 cubic meters of wood (a shed load)should be about £80.

Recommended.

i can get plenty fresh logs from tree felling. hard and softwoods. But will need to cure for a year and split. Most of it goes to my mate on a farm with a log burning boiler. If you have a van and can collect from edinburgh i can let you know when there will be logs available.

"electric chainsaw" hehe

If you have the means to get them then the forestry commission sells trees at about a tenner a ton for about 12ft lengths that is what we did when we had a wood burning fire

Cheers for the input guys. Afraid i dont have a van or a car thats suitable to carry wood im afraid so ill need to look into getting a van if necessary.

Re the electric chainsaw i laughed when it was given to me. My brother was having a clear out and asked if i wanted it. Not the best granted but im sure it will come in useful at some point.

I've not got a super pile in the front garden, and still 1 room left to rip up the boards from.

Come, take it away, do us both a favour biggrin

Meant to reply to this post earlier! Not wishing to hijack the OP's thread but if anyone still has any fire/scrap wood they're looking to get rid of round the central belt (and it'll fit in a Mondeo estate - can bring chainsaw) then I'd be interested.

Just need to wait for the weather to improve a bit first!

Thanks,
Mike.

Great thanks - I'll pop over when the weathers improved!
Would sometime over the weekend be any good if the snow has cleared?

Well i'm away to Dunfermline but as i say it's all sat in the front garden so you're welcome to go help yourself whenever suits. Old man might be up there over the weekend.

Drop me an email and we'll sort out something.

Thanks for the offer (and appologies for the slow reply). That's probably a little far out for me as I'm not round that area very often but thanks again.

Cheers,
Mike.
