Best road to Oban
Discussion
Hi guys,
taking the other half (& the dog) up to Oban for the weekend later this month so wondered if there was anything special up that way, it's been years since I last went there.
I'll be driving up from Carlisle & I reckon I'll hit Glasgow around tea time so it'll be getting dark but if there's a route you think I should be taking up there then let me know.
Also anyone with any exerience of great places to take the car when we're up there all ideas will be greatly recieved-car is a very low 911 by the way!

I tend to head up Loch Lomond side then carry straight on at Tarbet (Loch Lomond) and head for Inverary. The road between Arrochar and Inverary is brilliant, just be careful as you head down the other side of the Rest and be Thankful, the police have a habbit of sitting with a speed gun just at the Dunoon road cut off. From Inverary head up round Loch Awe another great stretch of road. Again just watch as you head through Taynuilt another favourite speed trap spot.

The Inverary to Dalmally is my favourite road in the world, and Arrochar to Inverary is also brilliant. If there's any way you can do this stretch during the daylight then do so.
Around Oban there are a few good roads but they can be quite busy as Oban is quite a hub, but saying that it is less so at this time of year. When you are there you'll see the amount of ferry traffic. Head up towards Fort Willian and down towards Lochguilphead for some great scenery.

This is how to get into and out of Oban the PH way:

It was one of the options for the Argyll Run on 21 November but is not the route we will use so happy to post up for you.
