Anyone know what this was about? A friend of mine's girlfriend saw the hundreds of police cars yesterday and now there is this report:

Theres been chat for years about gangs using secluded parts around that area for stashing weapons... could well be this was a stash thats accidentally went off or something.

I doubt its "terrorist" related.. that my feeling.

Unsure why this hasn't received more press.

The fact they're still investigating makes me think it's something a bit more sinister maybe?

Helloooo, it's been widely publicised every day on the news, apparently that's where the terrorists test their bombs, just like last time, Oli, when you gettin your Pork?

When I worked for the council, there'd occasionally be stories about the Forestry Comission finding cache's of buried shells from WW2, apparantley buried incase of an invasion and forgotten. There's a couple of old pill boxes dotted around Gartmore, so could possibly check out. Was certainly my first thought when I saw it on the news.

Just read a book related to this, might be a remnant of the British stay behind network - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stay-behind and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auxiliary_Units

That's a relief if "police sources" are to be believed. Wonder if the actual police media services will confirm that? Hope so!

There is a lot which is not quite right about this story. May be a long time before the truth ever comes out!
