So there I was today, driving into Kirkintilloch, slowing down at traffic lights when I notice the guy behind me get closer and closer and I can see in my mirror that he is steering whilst holding his mobile phone.

Bump, he runs into the back of me. We get out, a few scrapes on my bumper, he is apologetic, gives me all his details, admits to being on the phone. I drive off, cheesed off that my car has now some scrapes on the bumper that I will need to get quotes for , drive around repairers etc.

After my meeting in Kirkie, I am driving back and just after I join the M73 there are loads of blue lights and a car is lying on its roof, police trying to free people whilst ambulances and fire engine try to get through the stationery traffic to reach them.

It sure puts a few scratches on your bumper into perspective!! No matter how much we all love our cars and they are our pride and joy, they are just lumps of metal at the end of the day that, in most cases, are replaceable. Life, as has been tragically mentioned on another thread, is not!

Very true.....but how many of us have been in a bump or fell of a motorbike, only to say...how's my bike/car. Very different if you have a passenger, but you tend to think of your car/bike before yourself. Daft...cause they are replaceable.

however maybe the car on its roof was as a result of someone being on their phone.... think about that one...

no idea what the reason was but I must admit I hate seeing folk on phone when driving.

However the vast majority of accidents are caused by someone doing something they shouldn't be and by not doing that, they would have mimimised the risk, whether it be on phone, driving too fast, overtaking on a blind bend or whatever.

Very rarely will an accident happen that someone was not at fault for!
