Quite a hefty penalty!
But I suppose it'll prevent accidents. Seen a few cars with inches of snow on the roof, and braking and having snow completely cover their windscreen.

Taken from the "snow on roof" thread...

ON STV news apparently Strathclyde have issued a statement today saying that the contents of this text/email is rubbish and that it is incorrect in what it states, but they do recommend people clearing their car roof.

Do you clean all the snow off your car before setting off?

Also, what do you do if you have a very large 4x4, how do you clean the roof?

Just wondering smile

I clean the snow off the Range Rover roof with a floor squeegee, extendable pole, takes minutes

Totally agree about the 3 points though , had a knob jockey stopped in the outside lane of of the A92 because he hit the brakes and then couldn't see a thing.

I know someone who called the police about this one - just to clear things up.
Their reply was basically - "Haha, what a load of bcensoreds"
They said they were aware of the text but had no idea how it started.

They can stop you & ask you to clear it if it's ridiculously high - but that's it I think.

I've just cleared the snow from the roof of my van (with the help of a step ladder and a brush) but that was more to do with the weight of it. It's a fibreglass elevating roof (campervan style) and worried about the weight of 2' of snow on it...

I spoke to a mate who's a traffic cop. His response was "Don't be stupid, it isn't an offence."

However, it's not a bad idea to get it off though.
