I need to get to London tomorrow. Flights and Edinburgh trains are out, so only option is to drive through to Glasgow, leaving about 4am, for train to Euston.

Is road ok, I have 4wd impreza on winter tyres - Will I live? Thanks

Where you driving from?
Main issue on M8 has been jack knifed lorries at Harthill services and the steep hills around Junctions 3 and 3A?

If you have an Iphone then download "scotTraffic"

It hooks up to the camera's that view the M8 and other areas and shows you what its like from 10 mins ago. Newhouse to shawhead is clear for 1 lane. Glasgow is 2 lanes but lots of snow so dont try and cross lanes quickly, or you may come a cropper.

Take it easy as harthill area was quite bad with ice and snow on the hills.

Good luck.

So, I left Edinburgh at 4am, went through a blizzard, drifting snow, and about 1 in 5 cars I passed were sideways off the road (but all ok). Quite a few dodgy moments around Harthill.

When I got to Glasgow, the train wasn't running because of points failure at the depot...now on another one via Birmingham!

looking forward to journey back tomorrow - parts of M8 are like the A9 on a bad day at the moment.

Not booked, but east coast line on emergency service - less trains and 6.5hr journey time (if no delays...), so wouldn't arrive till afternoon.

Having said that, just been stuck at Penrith with train doors frozen, so now touch and go for change at Crewe...

I'd better not get to London and find the other guy 'couldn't make it in..."!

My new car is stuck at Murray motors in Edinburgh ( just been in for a service as part of the deal) but I am being told that they cant get it back to Glasgow for me to pick up from the dealership.

Any of you travelling the M8 Glasgow / Edinburgh corridor and is it really that bad ?

Instead of starting a new thread, will just ask on here.

How are the conditions on the M8/M80 around Glasgow? Also just the main roads down to Glasgow from Aberdeen?

Family are travelling down tomorrow for a concert and just want to make sure it's safe to travel.

Thanks, Andy. smile
