I may be looking for a good auto electrician in Aberdeen. The locks on the X5 keep freezing and it's doing my head in (this is the 2nd year I've had problems with it). BMW Aberdeen suggested running the car for half an hour before driving it as this is a known problem.
I'm considering getting sone sort of lock heaters fitted but would need someone who can do this without a kit.

I may have heaters I can use but I don't really want to risk the cars electrics with my wiring skills!

They are very good

Have you tried greasing them ?
& do they bounce when shutting them ? (ie not latching) or is the trouble actually getting in ?

I'm having trouble with the former on a X5 & broke a door handle carrier casting last year.

One of the guys from BMW on here contacted me last night, apparently greasing them with low temp grease will help, it's just that the service person I spoke to didn't tell me.
I've told my wife to get it booked in as soon as possible.

The doors bounce when you shut them, and my wife has had trouble getting in (it was -13 with us yesterday). I think the problems getting in may be un-related to the latches.

The main problem for me is that my wife just climbs in, holds the door shut and locks it. This keeps the door shut but it won't open when she wants out so she has to climb through the car! I won't be home untill the 16th at the earliest.

She's been using hot water on the outside of the door but they're re-freezing quite quickly.
