May Run - track day / run out?
Discussion
Alright lads,
starting to think ahead as the May event will probably be my last free pass before the bambino prep starts.
Do we fancy a track afternoon followed by BBQ (if poss at or outside kh) or a run and BBQ at the castle.
I'm guessing that a ph trackday would really want to be made up of regular runners from ours and northern runs supported by personal invites. As it would be majority of people with not a huge amount of track experience it's very important we don't get any Tarmac terrorists, bullies or people getting carried away. Safety first etc.
To make this viable I think it would need to be a Friday afternoon or poss a group booking on a sidc morning?
Anybody have any thoughts on a Friday afternoon session and BBQ or would most folks prefer a run instead?
Cheers

I was Baz, there's a couple of fri afternoon sessions organised by the Se bunch.
Tut, the older chap who won se'r of the year (you prob got a chat with him) organises a 4 hour Friday afternoon session and it's really good fun.
I think it would be cheaper on a Friday, either 1pm till 4 or 6 till 8.
Your def right on the gentlemans rules, so we can encourage all our run regulars , nobody feels intimidated and it's fun.
We can also rustle up some experienced guys to show lines (easy jc) and sit in as passengers etc.
If we could get a nice afternoon, good weather and then chill with a BBQ and banter I think it would be a brilliant day.
For chatting purpose I would say track cost would be approx £100 + tank of fuel and a jerry can or two. Then a few quid for byo food and drink.

Go for it mate lets get a proposal on here - if we lay down proper ground rules and inter car spacing, number of cars on track and overtaking the need for insurance should be negligible - we are not there for track records.
PS this may effect my tyre strategy for the year so the sooner I know the better.

Mr Burns for insurance you can phone your insurance company or try competition car insurance.
Most people even with insurance are expected to cough up 10% of the cars value as excess so general rule is. Drive as a gentleman (then you shouldn't need it) you pay for your own damage but drive within your limits and it shouldn't be an issue.
If all else fails, I would say definitely don't take your plates off before entering knockhill as it's fraud to take the car off track and claim the damage was done elsewhere.

You can also do Kames, one car on track at a time. You get a full day and it works out at buttons if you get 10+ drivers. You pretty much have the place to yourself so I am sure they would not mind a BBQ.
The west coast massif have already talked about doing this. Andy I'll forward you details but its 20 a head to join EACC and about 350 for the track for the day.Kames is very tight but it does have the advantage of very strict rules.
I have been fortunate enough to have been on the last 4 PH road runs and with the exception of one parking miscalculation there have been no crashes.
KH is wider than the public roads, has a better surface, there is no oncoming traffic and the corners do not change as you go round again.
Therefore I would be happy to lap KH all day within my limits and the considerably higher limits of my car without crashing.
It is worrying that despite only a few posts on this so far the focus is on "binning" cars and needing insurance. If this indicates an expectation of contact or leaving the track having pushed beyong your limits of skill my interpretation of gentleman's rules is out of touch.
If this is going to get even close to being a demolition derby with cars diving inside at the hairpin etc then I will happily watch from the pitwall. I'm probably just getting old but there we go.
If the day was driven in the same style (8/10 and generally follow the car in front) that we use on the road then I think we can still have an enjoyable day.

10 VX boys did Kames July last year for £55 a head if not joined or £35 if already a member. That was a full day 9am to 5pm, which is a lot cheaper than knockhill. It was just a suggestion and might suit some people as being alone on track reduces the red mist and therefore the chance of an accident.
May is a busy month for me so I doubt I will be able to make it but just wanted to highlight the option

Its not that im worried that ill crash. Or have contact with someone. I have never driven on a track before. So i have no idea how things work. Im always up for something and learning something. So its new for me. If itend up we get the normal ph runners aslong as its clearly pointed out in the moorning we would be fine.I have been fortunate enough to have been on the last 4 PH road runs and with the exception of one parking miscalculation there have been no crashes.
