Scotland 'PH worthy' hire car options?
Discussion
I'm looking for something decent for 3 days touring Scotland, as the S80 (despite being the most comfortable and economical motorway miler in the universe!) is not exactly a rewarding driving/ fun machine for the highland roads.
I originally considered buying something like an early Evo or 924 for a few grand, and selling it again after the trip (unless I really loved it enough to get a garage). This is a bit risky to take a relatively untried motor away, and could end up with big financial implications if anything breaks.
So... I think a hire is the way forward. It will be a mid-week hire for 3 days in summer (Monday 11am to Thursday 11am). The budget is circa £350 and hired from the central belt (ideally Glasgow)
A Caterham would be fun, but seems to be over my budget based on the prices at openroadhire.
Avis Prestige have an office in Edinburgh with toys under budget including 330d M Sport, Audi TTS Roadster or A5 cabrio.
If I can find an early 2000's one, I guess a Boxster would almost scrape in cost wise.
Any other inspiring ideas?

Avis prestige DID look good, but the only car available on the dates I want is a brand new Audi A5 Sportback for £277 from Glasgow (I'm not sure which engine yet, but could be a 2.7 petrol as that is what their coupe has). Sounds ok at that price, but still looking for something a bit more sporting...
Kiwi - here is the link to the price page of the Pher who does this - some interesting cars and if he would do you a deal you may get something nice on budget (Tamora yum!)

Cheers Barry, that's a great looking list of cars
In my searching I did come across this via CCC Scotland, but thought the budget wouldn't cover a 3 day hire. Hopefully the ability to book now and pay up front for a midweek only hire (plus gaining a friendly PH'er discount) might secure a deal.
Agreed, the Tamora would be VERY special
The Boxster a good second shout too if I couldn't make the budget work hard enough for the Tam.

+1 for Classic Car Club. Matt's a top chap and sorted me out nicely at short notice last year
The fleet is fantastic
. With a 450 mile trip in the highlands planned, I'd constantly be worried about stone chips, windscreen cracks, wildlife, etc.If I can get something with an option for full cdw waiver, I'd definitely pay more for the security/ peace of mind.
