I thought the plan was to change everything to 50 mph with average speed cams to grind the country to a halt.

I would completely agree with you, but is there te smallest chance that they might have seen the light and maybe do something good for a change.

Although traveling at 60mph on some Mways is challenging due to pothole dodgeing so think they need to upgrade the roads before an 80mph limit is imposed .

What the UK needs is adaptable limits, according to time, weather conditions etc.

It works in Germany, why not here?

This.
I won't be happy travelling above 60ish until all of the roads are sorted.

I really don't see it happening any time soon though.
I won't be holding my breath smile

Because I wanted to see what people in here are thinking , and due to the condition of scottish motorways.

Also do you think they will impose this on SOME parts of the mway and leave other parts at let's say 70mph. And going on the basis why aren't stretched of mway that have 50mph limits bog raised to 60mph

Fair enough, just couldn't make the connection in the link, and thought SPL might have been a more likely place to find a thread like this.

Ironically didn't the Westminster govt recently seccede Scottish speed limit setting powers to the Scottish Parliament, or was that just a proposal?

I know Scottish Mways have slightly different signage already...

Let's be honest here. The chances of this happen are slim!

Indeed it is a good solution. Our roads in the uk are a much poorer state than those in Germany though and our single carriageways are a much more dangerous place to be.

Most dual carriageways and motorways could easily take up the varying speed limits and some all the way upto unrestricted.

I would like the ridiculous 40mph limit for heavy lorries on single carriageway roads changed, it causes big problems on roads like the A1 and A9.

To me it seems crazy to spend zillions on widening roads when a simple change in the law could make a much bigger difference to travel times and safety, through reducing frustration caused by rolling road blocks.

Because it requires intelligence and people to think for a little bit.

So we're screwed then frown
