Is anyone familiar with Tiger kit cars?

I am trying to sell a race-prepared/track-day Suzuki Swift Sport and someone has offered me a part-exchange on a Tiger 6, with a 2.0 Pinto on twin 45's with a Kent RL35 cam. The car has adjustable suspension and comes with full weather gear, and new wheels and tyres.

I don't know much about Tiger's and wondered if anyone had any advice on what to look for. I looked at PH clasifieds and there seems to be a wide variety of cars and prices out there.

I wasn't in the market for a kit car, so I'm not wanting to know that I should buy something else, I'm just looking for some advice on whether the Tiger is going to be a fun summer car or a pain in the a*se taking up space in my garage.

Do you want it for road runs/sprinting or track days?
If I remember rightly, my friend told me they are a fair bit heavier than many of it's competitors...

To be honest, I'm looking at it for a bit of fun on the road. Already have a Radical for the track.

Built a tiger cat E1 xl with my dad over 18 months, basically a westfield but cheaper. Good car depending on how its been built. Ask the seller if he has a build diary as my dad kept one, had all the info for prices, where parts came from, how the car progressed with pics and blurb. Good info for when we sell ours on.

The pinto is a lod engine for them now, most are running ford zetec (like ours) but the duratec is getting popular. All weather gear will likely be a decent hood, side screens and bits to keep you dry-ish. Will come with a 5 speed ford type 9 box as well i would bet on. Decent box but can get sloppy with age/miles so take note.

I built a Tiger Super 6 over the course of about 3 years, and put about 1000 miles on it, and it was great fun to drive, although with the usual issues for that sort of car (cold, wet, no proper weather gear).

The Super6 cockpit is very small, so make sure you can fit into it. Width-wise the seat area is tiny and the pedals are very close together.

The chassis is fairly well over-engineered compared to many of these types of cars as its larger box section rather than round tube, so although it weighs a bit more it is also very strong.

The only weak part that I know of is the rear trailing arms - the older style oval-cross section arms had a tendancy to split at the welds or around the tubes where they join onto the rear axle, so check those very carefully to make sure they're solid. You can swap to a newer style round tube arm also which are stronger. This problem seemed to be caused by the axle hitting the underside of the arms on full compression, so check for dents in the arms. The standard rubber bushes in the suspension don't last well either, normally swapped to polybushes.

Rust wise mine only rusted around the steering rack mounts which were just bits of bent steel. I had my chassis powder-coated from the factory and it seemed well protected, but that was an option so it may be different.

It had no LSD due to being an old Cortina rear axle, so the rear end could be very skittish.

I had a Zetec so I've no idea about the Pinto engine, but mine had about 150bhp at the wheels and felt fast enough to me.
