According to the law, all safety cameras must have a camera information sign warning drivers in advance, but police said there was no requirement to advertise the location of the speed cameras in this case because the technology was simply "an upgrade" of existing red light sites.

I can't see that standing up in court.

Actually I dont have a problem with this since exceeding the speed limit through a traffic light junction IMHO is reckless in the extreme. Think about braking distances, pedestrians gathering at the crossings etc. When the lights are green, you know that they are going to change and you should be anticipating that, not breaking the speed limit to try and beat them.

But what about the new 20 limits that are coming in? Is 25 still 'reckless in the extreme'?

Thats a bit off topic, we are talking about the use of cameras at traffic light junctions. I'm not aware of any traffic light cameras in the proposed 20 zones.

I was told recently it was a blanket 20 in the City. Have I been mislead?

Ooh, did not know about that one. I guess it'll include the cameras at some crossings too.

I'd like to think I've been careful not wanting to pick up cheap points but can't help thinking back whether I've been guilty of going with the flow above tolerance somewhere.

These have been up for ages at large junctions on most of the arterial roads in and out the city centre. Chesser Avenue/Gorgie Road were one of the first.
So far the only ones I can recall seeing with the verification markings on the junction are the Saughton Road/Stenhouse Drive ones.

Designated areas within the inner city, eg Marchmont but does not include Bruntsfield Place on the North side or Strathearn Road to the south, unless they have changed their minds of course.biggrin
