As part of a trip in a couple of months, I have planned overnight stays, but are still to find places to stop for lunch near:

Oban
Kinlochewe or Loch Maree
Killin or Pitlochry

Each of the above places is the general locality I'm looking for, and a decent view would make it a nicer place to take a break.

I'm not looking for Michelin star... more decent quality sandwiches/ light meals/ tea/ coffee/ Irn Bru/ etc burgerdrink

As usual in Scotland, it seems 'word of mouth' is the best way to find somewhere great. Given we are all spread across the country, I'm hoping local knowledge will come to the rescue with some good ideas thumbup

Cheers

Cheers Barry, I'm guessing these are well tested as the stopovers for many of the West Coast PH runs smile

That Oyster Inn and WideMouthFrog look to be a perfect location thumbup

The Loch Melfort one is a bit too far south for us this time around

Armadale to Loch Lomond, so Connel is perfect for lunch

Has anyone been here for lunch? I think it's a stopover popular with some of the Petrolhead Nirvana tours... http://www.thetorridon.com/inn/

I do, a brand new 330d m sport. Monday to Thursday, zero excess including tyres and glass, unlimited mileage... £307!

Not the sportiest car on earth, but quick and spritely enough for a compact exec and at that price its hard to fault thumbup

I'll need to call them tomorrow. Google tells me that it does a good weekend carvery, but closed in the week for lunch confused

Are any of the restaurants on Killin Main street any good? Capercaillie?, Bridge of Lochay?, Falls of Dochart Inn?

Ooops, failed to notice your dates. IIRC they're open Thursday (Wednesday?) to Sunday...

GetCarter incoming!

wink

I've never been, I must admit, having only managed the Applecross Inn, which is good too, but Steve, and anyone he's recommended it to, have only been full of praise.

We stayed at the Applecross Inn on our last trip, and it really was great. This time, we want to find somewhere a bit further north to eat.

I thinking about heading down past Loch Maree towards Slattadale (sp?) for lunch, and then head back up the road. Is this worth the time to do this short return trip from Kinlochewe to Slattadale?

I didn't find anything that seemed suitable on the shores of Loch Maree when searching, however the Torridon was close by.

Sorry, I should clarify, I missed a vital clause in the above post.

My only experience is with Applecross, but the last bit should really have read thus :

"but Steve, and anyone he's recommended it to have only been full of praise for the Torridon Inn"

That sounds like The Torridon Inn for lunch is the winner then. I'll call tomorrow to make sure they can book us in.

I know this is GetCarter's territory, but all opinions and experiences on how best to get there are welcome.

I have maximum 2 1/2 hours of time available from leaving Achnasheen to arriving in Lochcarron. I need to fit in lunch (assume The Torridon) which will take around 45 Minutes - 1 Hour. I'm looking for the most enjoyable/ scenic/ best (in a PH sense) way to get there.

The times I have listed are what 'the internet thought', although I realise that the types of road, and unusual terrain these could well be over estimated.

Route 1 (60 Minutes)

Route 2 (1 hr 20 Minutes)

Route 3 (2 hrs)

Route 4 (2 hrs 20 Minutes)
