Many of you won't have heard of this guy. For my sins Raith have been my team and I was a season ticket holder for many of the years Coyle was a player - he was in the team of November 1994 and also felt sorry enough to give Bayern Munich a penalty in resultant UEFA cup run we had.

Ronnie had a benefit match just a couple of weeks ago against a Celtic old Bhoys team - Paul McStay - who missed the pen in 94 - flew over from Australia especially for the match which attracted nearly 3000 fans and on this occasion scored the winning pen after a 3-3 draw. A very entertaining game and when you consider Raiths average attendance 3000 was a great turnout when you also consider Scotland were playing Brazil at the same time. So the turnout speaks volumes for the man.

I've only just read this on the Raith website

RIP

A true legend - I'm gutted.

Indeed, a great man who was truly inspirational to many. He will be sadly missed.

I did see him play at Stark's Park during the season when Raith were in the Premier League ... when I wasn't being distracted by the trains going past or the builders constructing the new stand. wink

A real shame ... and born in the same year as me. frown

Cheers,

Eric smile
