I have (I think) 2 spare sets of injection for the 280i

1 Defo works as both cars were working before I combined bits to make 1 decent car, and we had a "spare set" in one of the cars as well.

I'm sure we can lend/sell you bits if required.

Defo got 1 and I think I have 2, your more than welcome to borrow them both.

Let me know when you want to pop over?

PM me and I'll send you my mobile if I haven't already given you it.

Evenings or possibly one Sunday are better for me.

Im still having the same probs as you. Been sorting other bits out over the last few weeks but its getting to that stage where im going to have to sort it before the car gets nicked, not good leaving it running while I pay for fuel. Not sure of your symptoms but mine are - Go for a drive and the engine is hot. Stop the engine and try straight away and it'll start. Leave it for 10 mins try again and it kind of fires then that's it for 3 hours. Strange thing is it starts on a bump, splutters for a while then its ok. Also when its acting up if I remove the air filter and lift the flap a couple of times so the fuel pump operates it will start. Had a tuning guy round and he thought it was the fuel pump. New one later and still the same. He fitted a pressure gauge the the fuel system and the pressure drops then wont start. I tried to clamp of the pipe from the accumulator the the engine in case it was at fault but no difference. When the car is running it don't miss a beat, goes like stink and sound ace.
Does any of this sound familiar. Bloody cars.
Cheers
Mark

When Mine was running some years ago I had similar symptoms. Difficulty starting from warm but to start it I kept churning the starter for short bursts as I think the pump is switched off when constantly churning.
Then I discovered the safety cut out which I think is only on the early 280s and is on the nearside of the metering unit and has a green wire plugged in. I unplugged it and it kept the pump running continuously. I didn't really test that afterwards but I thought it helped to bring the fuel up to some pressure before cutting out.

The pump made a nasty noise and it was going to be replaced but I sold the car before all that could be sorted.

Hi Mate..
Mine starts fine when its cold with or without the relay plug conneted..Its un-plugged at the moment,
My fuel pressure drops as soon as the car is switched off..I had the return line from the metering head clamped..(one nearest the front of the car)..whilst running then ignition turned off wait for 30 seconds, Un-clamped and it started straight away..repeated a few times..This suggests that it could be the metering head as it is supposed to hold a certain amount of pressure..You could unplug the relay connection as mentioned..(plug on metering head)..so that the pump starts on the ignition instead of cranking but dont leave your ignition on too long without the car running as it can damage your fuel pump..Apparently it is quite difficult to determine what is at fault with these systems as there are a few things it could be..If it is your fuel distributor/metering head there is a company called KMI who can test and rebuild your unit for £360,They do an exchange service on WUR as well and can order the injectors, They also stock the accumulator.I will post up once i have tried a working metering head..Cheers..ziga

Just checked the plug you mentioned, It was dist. maybe I bought your car!!!!!
Plugged it back in and the pump stops running all the time with the ignition on as it was before. Still playing up though. Never mind, fitting a nice new hood this week Ha Ha

Hi Mate
Have you tried clamping the said return line from the fuel distributor?..If your standing at the passenger side looking towards the front of the car its the pipe coming from the 1 o clock position near the radiator..Two people are better at this job, Whilst its running clamp with a set of grips..Turn car off and wait for 30 seconds then whilst the key is being turned un-clamp the pipe..If it starts first time repeat a few times to ensure it is the return line that is doing it..If it makes no difference then you could be losing fuel pressure from the accumulator..The WUR or a leaking injector..Good luck..Ziga

PS:Where abouts are you as when im done with the metering heads i borrowed from weginald ill ask him if its ok to let you borrow it to test yours out as well.

Let me know how you get on Zig, I'm happy to have the metering heads loaned on, as long as we can keep track of them, as I'd like them back eventually.
