Anyone changed the oil pressure relief valve spring? if so, couple of quick questions. Do I need to change spring and plunger, do I need to drain the oil first?

Cheers

Certainly change the spring, the plunger maybe depending if its scored or pitted. If it looks good and the gunge cleans off it then why bother?

As Adam says, you don't need to drop the oil if you're just removing the valve and spring. However, in my experience, it's not the valve itself that causes the sticking, but the relatively soft aluminium housing that it runs in, which can develop very small burrs from debris in the oil,but large enough to prevent the valve sliding freely. I'm sure you're also aware that if you're uprating the spring, there is a limit on what the engine will be happy with in terms of pressure.

My oil pressure is too low, at high RPM goes to about 25 and as low as 10 at idle. Replacing the oil relief spring with a standard replacement to see if this brings this back in line.

One last question, is the oil relief spring accessed from under the car or through the engine bay? Sorry for the daft questions, just gather the best info before getting my hands dirty

Cheers

Thats probably a little low, but there are so many variables: how many miles has the engine covered, what grade of oil is used, is the gauge accurate, what is the idle speed etc. As you say, for the cost of a spring, worth a go. Access underneath. I did post the diagram from the manual a while back - if you can't find it in a search let me know.

I've found this too. so take them off completely and give then a bit of a fettle.

This way you can check the wear on cover and gears.
