Its that time of year ... Classic-line just wrote to tell me my policy is going up by almost £75...
New Quote for 2011/2012 is £296 .... an increase from this years premium of £225.
They have "managed" to locate me a new insurer who can do it for £246. :\ ... ok, its cheaper than the renewal quote, but still almost £25 more expensive than last year ...

I'm still with Classicline, despite a small increase this year. The problem I found with RH was that they wanted a formal valuation from a company who has no financial interest in the car. With the restricted number of specialists around finding one who had not worked on tnhe car or upplied parts was going to be difficult for me. Plus, as you may know, the TVRCC no longer do valuations.
Just heard about a guy who bought a vw golf and insured it with tosco then had an accident in it only to find they won't cover him coz it had non standard wheels on it,they was on it when he bought it and knew nothing different, even got a letter from previous owner confirming it,now they want to do him for not having valid insurance and as he was paying by installments he has to pay up the rest of the outstanding amount, can't quite get my head around that one,is it me or what?
Insurance proposal form requires you answer 'does the car have any modifications?' question. All car insurance is based on the basis that the insurer knows about the policy and must declare it (policy documents and certificate plus other docs), insured knows about the asset being insured and declares it when requested (application form) and both parties have a legal requirement to check the validity of any statement made as legally binding on both parties. If the wheels fitted to the car were aftermarket non-standard it is his resposibility to declare them as such or have written confirmation from the previous owner that the car has no mods in which case he would have a potential claim against the previous owner. No one thinks to do this however.
When I insured my Cerb I declared down to the fact that that the wheels were the later larger ones (same pattern), as although they were TVR originals they were not fitted to my model and hence could invalidate cover. Always best to declare than risk it. All those TVR owners with de-catted cars take note, car is illegal on road if registered in a year that should have them fitted therefore cover invalid and you can't declare it as the policy would not be issued on this basis as car would fail MOT. Insurers are looking for ways to save money, and non declaration means they get all the premiums and no risk of having to pay out so be warned, it is to their advantage if you don't declare. [sad lecturer mode off]

No insurance company will accept that! and honour it for the premiums we pay!
Back when I used it as my only car I declared it as, used for social domestic pleasure and commuting to work every day, and Classicline were happy to insure on 7k5 limited mileage, agreed value and even allowed me to park my NCD on the policy until I needed it on another car some years later. Only moved away from them due to premium rise... might give them another chance though.1. Phil £35K agreed value! How did you work that one!
Easy, just estimate the rebuild cost of a SEAC. In fact it would probably cost more.
2. He added up the bills!
Don't talk to me about how much I've thrown at my car. I'm no spannerhead and I like things done right.
3. No insurance company will accept that! and honour it for the premiums we pay!
Oh yes they will, honour it on a classic that is.
Agreed value is the cost of a repair or rebuild back to the condition, or better than it was prior to the accident or theft.
The De Tomaso club secretary happily backed up my request for a letter for the insurance broker which was accepted. Circa £5,000 GBP for a replacement front wing. You kinda have to have rock solid insurance.
Peter S. Taylor & Co £134.50 p.a. for the TVR: https://www.bishopcalway.co.uk/
I think the De Tomaso is now £146.00 p.a.

Phil - I wasn't casting apersions - honest! I bet I could add up my bills and come to a pretty sum too.
I did a quick poll of the insurers listed above and these are the results of the commuting question:
Classicline: yes
Adrian Flux: yes
Henderson Taylor: yes but not with agreed value (d'oh!)
Peter S. Taylor & Co: no
Adrian Flux haven't been able to beat Classicline for me (it seems the 400SX is a modification too far)....
